Marcelo Tag has become a well-known name on the Italian clubbing scene over the past three years. His beginnings as a DJ may be traced back to a high musical sensitivity developed from his psychedelic background and regular visits to Italian and international clubs, specifically in the UK. His original passion for electro music and electro-minimal-funk sounds in all their aspects typify his style. Stepping beyond the art of mixing records and leaning towards the boundaries of contaminations, the ‘Lick the Sound’ project - leaded by Marcelo Tag and his now former partner Def - took off with the collaboration of live musicians capable of giving a powerful, massive mark to the performance. The first events were staged in Turin at the Barbar, one of the leading clubs in electro history, where Tag successfully performed on Thursdays. After firstly combining turntables, guitars, bass guitars and drums, the entire project was moved until December 2003 to the Chalet in Turin for the 10x10 Trend every Friday night with colleague and friend Mc Victor. Marcelo Tag was later resident DJ at the Rock City for the entire 2004-2005 season. Since 2003, he has been official DJ at the presentations of Fashion Week compilations volumes I, II and III, Stefano Cecchi Records’ Hydrogen Bar compilations and U-Music Party sponsored by Diesel. For two years, from January 2003 to February 2005, Marcelo Tag consolidated his leading role with his involvement in The Plug Collective at the Centralino, the most famous and successful Italian electro night, where as resident DJ he pushed the best electro-minimal music in a wild, surreal ambience fit for the best European clubs. This experience was certainly highly significant due to the top musical level of the many guests in the house at The Plug and the visibility it created for him with the public. The result of these two elements were exploited to create an entirely new collaboration with Fabrizio Vespa: the XXX night at The Beach in Turin. The initially tough challenge turned out to be a winning success both for the DJ’s artistic CV and for the event itself, which rapidly become a must-go for Saturday clubbers in Turin. When the Ibiza Space Tour and Circoloco DC10 hit Turin, Marcelo played with resident DJs David Phillips, Clive Henry (Peace Division), and the world queen of the dance floor Tania Vulcano. Marcelo’s international guest appearances include the Orange Bar in London, the Q-Club in Benidorm (Spain), the Xueno at Formentera and the Coyote in Marbella. Thanks to notoriety brought by his appearances at both The Plug and the XXX, he has worked with world famous DJs, such as Sven Vath Timo Maas, Agoria, Vitalic, Nathan Fake, X-Press 2, Optimo, Dan Ghenacia, The Hacker, Krikor, Ivan Smagghe, Metro Area and many others. A major role is certainly played by Marcelo’s ‘musical productions’ which complete his activities ad a DJ. The successful results obtained in a recording studio in Milan last year spurred him to move it all to a new location in Turin. 2006 saw the completion of several recording projects and the presentation by Nasty Records of his first track ‘Back from Tarifa’. Again in 2006, his contacts increased and he shared the console with some of the most innovative and prolific DJs and producers on the electro-techno-minimal scene, such as Frank Lorber and Dinky (Cocoon), Bruno Pronsato, Mossa, Funzion and Dylo (Igloo rec.), Someone Else, Pheek (Archipel), Jay Haze (contexterior), LOco Dice (Dc10 Circoloco-Cadenza rec.), Clhoè (Rex Paris), and ANja Schneider (Mobilee rec.). As a result of these new contacts, Marcelo has been invited to perform as guest DJ in various clubs and he even became resident for three months at the Moog in Barcelona. Still in 2006, he got together with Eletricalz in Milan to create a network of Italian and European clubs for promoting the exchange and interaction between artists in some of the most exciting cities of the techno-minimal panorama: the Fluido and The Beach in Turin, the Moog and the Be Cool in Barcelona, the Tunnel and the Leon Cavallo in Milan and other clubs in Lyon, Paris, Florence, Valencia, Rome and Berlin.
