With a professional singer as a father and a brother who’s a professional Tabla (Indian drums) player, it is no wonder that Suman aka MC Sly became involved in music. At the age of nine, her father taught her how to play the keyboard and two years later she was out performing gigs with both her father and brother all over the country. At school Suman participated in all the music events as she continued to develop her natural talents. As her passion for music evolved, she began composing and putting together musical arrangements on her own and became involved in the UK rap scene.By the time she went to university, Suman had started working on her song writing, her father and brother encouraging her to develop her own style, and when she came to London to do a post-graduate course she became more involved in the urban scene. She began to put together whole tracks and started producing them on equipment at home. She has taken control of her whole music career, which she has managed to balance with her day job as a solicitor.
At the end of 2005 she teamed up with UK based producer / DJ Khiza and featured on his album with 5 fresh tracks composed and co-produced by Suman. Since the release of Khiza's album Suman has had the opportunity to perform across the country and has received amazing feedback from the audiences. Suman has proved to be a versatile performer as her appearances have ranged from mela's and carnivals to religious celebrations, charity and corporate events. Suman's style of music and performance has been appreciated by a wide sprectrum of audiences.
Together with Khiza, Suman has released 2 music videos. The music video for her debut track "Dont You Know" held the number one spot in TV channel Sony (SET) Asia for 6 weeks running.
Suman was nominated for 3 awards at the UK Asian Music Awards 2006 as well as the video for "Dont You Know" being nominated for best video and Khiza's album being nominated as best album.
Suman is currently working on her debut solo album.
Suman believes she has a unique sound and has received positive feedback from within the industry. Although she has been influenced by many artists, she adds: “I don’t compare myself to any other artists. I would say my style is a self-found sound.â€..........
