Vicious Riff

I started this Myspace page to promote a new website that I'm currently working on called Vicious Riff - an online archive on punk rock in Paisley, Scotland. Paisley is the largest town in Scotland and is located immediately to the west of Glasgow. In 1977, one year after the emergence of punk rock in London, the City of Glasgow imposed a short-term ban on all punk rock gigs. The result of this was that any bands who wanted to play in the area headed to Paisley to play venues such as the Silver Thread Hotel and the Bungalow Bar. These bands included the Buzzcocks, the Adverts, Slaughter and the Dogs, the Lurkers, and many more. Even when the Glasgow ban was lifted, many up and coming bands still played Paisley.
The site includes information on these bands, the local Paisley bands who started because of punk rock, and the bands who played Paisley that were influenced by punk rock. As this is an ongoing project, the site is updated regularly and includes quotes from bands who played there and many unseen photos from private collections.
If you attended any of the early punk gigs in Paisley or if your band played a Paisley venue (including later venues like the Cellar, Windys, Paris, Stringfellows) then please get in touch via the website as I'm still collecting information such as personal memories, stories, flyers, photos, reviews and, recordings. I'll give each band at least one page and credit all information I receive. Most people who have visited the site have been willing to contribute and share what they have.
