My Interests

photos, people, marathons, music, espresso, engaging conversations, conflict avoidance, and autumn...the season.

I'd like to meet:

you. no, not the you you've created for others to see and admire, not the you you've become to avoid being vulnerable, but you without walls. let's talk.

Movies:

i am a fan of compelling cinematography as much or more than i am a fan of storylines and actors, so i don't really discriminate when it comes to movies. scary movies, funny movies, sad movies, mindset-challenging movies-- if they're beautifully shot... i'l probably like them.

Television:

the office

Books:

anything by frederick buechner, a lot by c.s. lewis, anne lamott, donald miller, biographies (cash by johnny cash in particular), autobiographies, a heartbreaking work of staggering genius and others by dave eggers. the bible, although i rarely read it. i'd like to change that.

Heroes:

my dad- for his incomparable wisdom and integrity, my mom- for her immeasurable heart, my sister- for her listening ears that lack prejudice, jesus- for modeling a life worth living, and anyone who is able to be who they are in spite of a world that wants them to be someone else.

My Blog

abject affirmation.

i just got home from a night at the bar. every weekend night at 10pm, the restaurant where my emploment resides transforms from a trendy, over-priced eating establishment to a trendy, under-priced dri...

snapshot no.1: bad b-sides

every monday evening at 7:00, i meet some friends at panera bread for what has become affectionately referred to as "family night," although no one in the group is blood-related. i look forward to thi...

snapshots. an introduction.

if all it takes is a simple picture to conjure up a thousand descriptive words, britannica volumes could be written about the images burned into our minds and hearts, the scenes from our respective pa...

life imitates art imitates life. (an intro to "100m dash")

i never thought i would write a blog introducing/prefacing another blog, but then again, i never thought i'd be doing any of this in the first place. in the interest of full disclosure and complete ho...

here is what a two month backpacking trip in europe will do for you: it will render you completely unable to return to the stagnant, adventure-less yet comfortable world you've created in which to liv...

minimum wage

teddy, ken and i were a ragtag bunch of dishwashers, even by ragtag standards. teddy was a "simple" man (to be p.c.) who didn't speak much, and when he did it was almost impossible to decipher his wor...
