I am a former international rugby player now frustrated
guitarist. I think I was born lucky. Early childhood was in
Malaysia at a fabulous school called Uplands in
Penang, then back to Scotland. Got to play rugby for
Scotland and the British Lions, and now broadcast for
the BBC where I present radio programmes (sport and
other stuff where there can be incredible moments when
you meet interesting people) and commentate on radio
and tv and coach a rugby team. Highlights? 1986
beating England by a record score, 1995 Rugby World
cup final to watch South Africa win, the Commonwealth
games in Melbourne – great people great country – but
most of all it’s just watching my children grow up. My
eldest child, John, has just been capped by Scotland
and the middle child, Julie, is off to work at
Uplands, youngest Jenny is a footballer.
Have played in a few rock bands. In the olden days
played with Radio Clyde dj Tiger Tim, and now with
Graham Forbes, Jackie Bird, Tom Urie and Andrea McNeill in a
real fun outfit.
