DEFY ceased to exist.
On Wednesday 27th April 2005,
DEFY played they're first ever gig!
A battle of the bands at Stockton sixth form college against they're good friends in Best Foot Forward, and some other band that nobody cared about. We probably didn't deserve it, but we won! It was an amazing night and all of the prizes we'd been promised.... never came. And that's basically the story of this band, we've had an amazing three years together, but nothing ever came of it.
During the rest of 2005, we learnt the basics on how to get gigs, playing a few for a spud named Beni, before quickly realising that some people in the world of music are complete and utter arse-holes. We ended 2005 on a high however playing two gigs at Middlesbrough town hall, one with punk legends Anti-Nowhere League, and the other an unsigned christmas party at which we gave out presents to all of our fans.
Our first gig of 2006 will always be the most memorable, after seeing them three times prior to this gig, getting to support the mighty Electric Eel Shock to a sold out crowd at Newcastle Carling Academy of all places, is something that will permanently be cemented in our minds forever. We then got to support The Zico Chain, and play more amazing gigs including our first ever headline gig, at The Arc in our home town of Stockton-On-Tees. Another gig which we will remember forever as we got to play to a near sell out crowd with our best friends, and one of the most talented bands to ever come out of the North East, Welcome To Failure. We unfortunately spent the rest of 2006 suffering the consequences of the new hardcore scene, and we're forced to play gigs with bands that wore tight jeans and pig squeeled. We ended another year on a high though and released our first E.P at a gig supporting the amazing Johnny Panic.
In 2007, we promised we wouldn't play any more gigs with hardcore bands, and decided it was time to start touring the country and getting our music heard by more people. We did so and had the most fun road trips ever, but most memorable was the fact we came home to play not one, but two more shows at Newcastle Carling Academy. First with The Idiot Rate (r.i.p), and secondly, with one of Pratty's favourite bands, LostAlone. 2007 was probably the most amazing year in our career as a band and was topped when we travelled to Reading to record our second E.P with John Mitchell at Outhouse Studio's.
That E.P is our greatest achievement and the four of us have never been more proud of anything in our entire lifes. As it's turned out, it's the last thing we accomplished as a band, and in may 2008, we decided to call it a day.
We would like to say a huge thankyou to every single person that has ever been to one of our shows, ordered one of our cd's, listened to our songs on myspace, or just plain and simply supported us in one way or another. We're never ever going to forget this and that's partly because of you lot, so thankyou so so much, we really have appreciated it, and we honestly do, love every single one of you!
Thankyou, Love DEFY x
