**Like a Super charged V8 engine, Cylinder has exploded onto the Hard Rock scene. Dominating the Bay Area club circuit for Hard Rock followers, Cylinder has set out to make the same impact on the San Francisco, Sacramento and L.A. scenes. Currently recording their first full length album, "Fueled by Fire," at Indigital Studios (due out in the summer of 2008), this highly talented group is guaranteed to spread even faster and further upon its release. To those screaming for a new Hard Rock band to blast in their stereos, Cylinder has come to answer the call.
Cylinder was formed in Santa Cruz, California by Will Allen (Burbon Legend, Riot Act) and Nick Boyd (Riot Act, Downfall, Zen Vendetta) in August of 2006. Having both been in the band Riot Act prior to Cylinder, they soon realized the potential in their musical connection. Quiting their current bands, they both committed to starting a new project. After a month of intense song writing, they were able to put together some rough material which later would become a few of Cylinder's first songs (Wise Up, Zombie, Home, Free, and This Time).Anxious to hear vocals over the new material, they set out to find a lead singer. After numerous tryouts with many Bay Area singers, Kike Valderama stood out to become the frontman for Cylinder. The band struggled to find the right Bass player after months of tryouts. Through the reference of a friend Guitarist, Mike King, was invited out to a practice. Seeing the potential in the trio, Mike quickly traded in his Guitar for a Bass to complete the line-up.Initially forming under the name Suicide Mafia, the band began writing to finish enough material for their first live performance. Upon completion, the band realized the name Suicide Mafia no longer represented their music. Seeking a name which not only represented the music more accurately but also the kind of working class people (Mike- Mechanic, Nick- Carpenter, Shane- Bartender, Will- Soils Tech) the band consists of, the name Cylinder was chosen.
Bursting onto the music scene firing on all cylinders May 4th, 2007 Cylinder rocked at the Catalyst in their first live show in the Preliminary Round of the '07 Santa Cruz Rock Wars. Their outrageous performance was rewarded by being voted into the coveted Santa Cruz Rock Wars Finals where they placed 6th out of over 70 bands. Not bad considering it was only their 2nd show. After several local performances, Cylinder and singer, Kike, parted ways in early August of 2007. The band had reached another level, requiring more time and dedication which Kike was no longer able to provide (due to job constraints, traveling and his present living location). With shows still booked through August, Cylinder placed a call to Shane Geslin (Studio XVI). Having previously met and having remembered feeling a strong connection through a jam session, Cylinder knew immediatley where to turn for their new lead singer. Luckily, Shane himself was in search of a new project (having left the band Studio XVI). With no time wasted, he instantly began preparing for the upcoming shows. Performing with only five days of preparation, the newly formed Cylinder, played their first gig at Monterey's Lava Lounge without skipping a beat.
To date, Cylinder has gone on to success at the Monterey Rock Wars; placing Second, short of placing 1st by only 2 votes, and a dozen or more shows throughout the San Jose, Santa Cruz, and Monterey areas. Having saved their pennies, Cylinder has gone on to begin recording of their Debut Album, "Fueled by Fire," at Indigital Studios.
