Crackalac, hip hop group representing the Bloomington, Indiana area consisting of four MC’s with a similar strive to be the best at what they do. Their hunger and creative ambition has driven them to reach for new heights in the music industry. They explained that their music is, “[S]something new to the ear and many people are taking an instant liking to it,†(Crackalac, 2007). Their sound could be compared to an east coast/southern mixture of hip hop, with a certain degree of Indiana swagger.
The individual four MC’s that make up the group are Kandykid (Jake Foster), DC (Desmond Carpenter), Hi-C (Colton Lantz) and Cadillac Slim (Gary Borer). All four have a different story and background that drives them as individuals to succeed. However, when the four come together their presence can be felt. With each group member coming from a lower class background, their goals are all focused around moving up and making the best of their situations. Hi-C stated that, “A rough start can only mean a better finish in the long run,†(Colton Lantz, 2007).
Their lower class backgrounds and their love for hip hop are their main inspirations behind their music. With over seven years of experience in all aspects of the music business, they have a very good understanding of what it takes to make quality music that people can relate to. Kandykid stated that, “This is a demanding job that takes everything you are able to give and having a general understanding of this is crucial to your survival within the industry. The business is full of sharks and without the knowledge it is easy to get devoured if you’re just starting out small,†(Jacob Foster, 2007).
They have a relatively small, but rapidly growing fan base all across the Midwest United States. Many of their venues reach the maximum capacity of people and more and more people are coming out to support them at every event. DC expressed that, “[I]t feels good to know that so many people like our music, the support we get from our fans is amazing [other group members nodded their heads in agreement],†(Desmond Carpenter, 2007). Crackalac is currently working on their third album, along with a compilation album with Shawn Perigon. Both albums are highly anticipated by fans, and expected to be released around late April/May of 2009...
