About Me

I remember the day I found the reel-to-reel recorder tucked away in a drawer in my parents basement. I was 9 years old and I had found the Holy Grail! recording every song that played on the radio, then friends conversations, even telephone calls, I became obsessed. There was no reason to sleep, no reason to eat, sometimes I’d have to remind myself to breathe when I had my finger on the record button. Every time I listened to playback, I would constantly consider how I could make it sound more real, more intense, more dramatic. that is when I knew I had to be a record producer.
In considering how to achieve my goal I looked to my hero at the time, Bob Ezrin, who produced all those great Alice Cooper records that drove my mother crazy. So you can imagine my delight when I had to call my mother (a church school administrator) and tell her I had just been chosen to mix Marilyn Manson’s “Antichrist superstar”. “Sorry mom!”
I had two lucky breaks that got me the chance to show my metal. The first happened two weeks after I graduated from Ohio University. My friend and guitarist Don Cook called me to say he had just been recording at a studio called Great Tracks in downtown Cleveland and they were looking for an engineer. Now I had only assisted one guy for the two weeks I had been out of school, but I decided to go for it. I went down to the studio and met with the owner Bruce Seiffert. He and I got along great in that interview, and he went out on a limb and hired me. I learned the value of a great first impression that day. The second break was the big one. The one where this keyboard player named Trent says, “your stuff sounds great, could you mix my demos?” that “yes!” changed my life.

My Interests

Reading, architecture, music, science, science fiction, bodyboarding, and the genteel art of tieing ties.

I'd like to meet:

I put up this page to call attention to bands I’m working with, or have worked with, because not all of them have had the breaks that Nine Inch Nails or Marilyn Manson or No Doubt have had. Of course, they’re success also came with huge talent, dedication, and lots of work, but face it, luck has a lot to do with it as well. So please, if you have enjoyed some of the bands that I have been fortunate enough to work with, check out these bands. You may find some new favorites as I have.

WHO I'D LIKE YOU TO MEET

Bands I’m in:

8mm:
8mm is a down tempo/trip hop band that I formed with my wife Juliette last year. I found out Juliette could sing quite by accident, and when we started to write together something magic happened. We have been lucky enough to have gathered a following on Myspace and around the world, have returned from a successful run of shows in the U.K., had some amazing shows in Chile and just finished a tour of the South and Midwest in the states. We are currently playing in Los Angeles where we live.
Our new record "Songs to Love and Die By" is finished. We are currently in negotiations to get it into record stores and into the record collections of a few cool people.

Music:

I love all kinds of music as long as it comes from the heart, But Francis Albert Sinatra and Antonio Carlos Jobim will always hold a special place in mine.

Below is a fairly current copy of my discography. Please utilize the key at the top before asking me "what did you do on this record?" I took the time to post all this ( I deplore typing), so please return the courtesy by taking the time to read before asking. Thanks, Sean

Discography date of issue: October 2004

Movies:

I am easily entertained by movies so i'm no snob. i love the classics: "8 1/2", "the tin drum", "my life as a dog", "the 400 Blows", etc. but i also love bad science fiction and will watch a blockbuster instead of an arthouse flick. i also love the arthouse flick! i just don't like cheesy romantic comedies though i loved "Four Weddings and a Funeral"

Television:

I'm not going to be cool and say that i don't watch tv. That was true in the 80's, but since "Twin Peaks" tv's been pretty good. On the current TIVO list: "24", "Battlestar Galactica" yes all the CSI's, "The Daily Show", "Without a Trace", "West Wing". And i am still mourning the loss of "Farscape"!

Books:

everything by: Tom Robbins, John Irving, Isaac Asimov, Clive Barker, Douglas Adams, David Sedaris, Margaret Atwood, Dan Brown, Marvin Harris, Richard P. Feynman, Kurt Vonnegut, Ferdinand Celine, Dennis Miller, Michael Beschloss, the list goes on and on.

Anne Sexton, Charles Bukowski, E.E. Cummings, T.S. Elliot, W.S. Merwin, C.S. Lewis, J.R.R Tolkien...

all the Harry Potter books, His Dark Materials, Series Of Unfortunate events, etc... ad infinitum...

Heroes:

My mom and my dad.
