CHANTING NAM-MYOHO-RENGE-KYO from Commentaries on Buddhahood, "On Attaining Buddhahood in This Lifetime"Shakyamuni realized the Mystic Law through his wisdom and tried to teach his disciples the practice to gain the same wisdom for themselves. Nichiren Daishonin, however, teaches us to chant Nam-myoho-renge-kyo with confidence that the Mystic Law exists...within. Chanting Nam-myoho-renge-kyo is an expression of that confidence, the proof of our Faith. It demonstrates our intent to live as Buddhas. At the same time, it is an affirmation that our existence is based on the Law.Nichiren says, "Chanting Myoho-renge-kyo will therefore enable you to grasp the mystic truth innate in all life." (The Writings of Nichiren Daishonin, vol. 1, p.3) In other words, chanting Myoho-renge-kyo equals perceiving the mystic truth. By chanting, we can live in the same way as those who perceive this truth. The greatness of Nichiren Buddhism lies in the discovery of this path to the ultimate reality. Before the appearance of Nichiren, the Mystic Law was hinted at through metaphor but never directly explained. To arouse people's seeking spirit, teachers prior to Nichiren would emphasize the greatness of the Buddha awakened to this Law. Unlike in those previous efforts, Nichiren opened the way for all people to manifest this mystic truth-by developing confidence in the existence of the Law within and by chanting its name.To Purchase your own personal copy of "For Today and Tomorrow: Daily Encouragement" By Daisaku Ikeda. copy and paste the following link into your browser. http://www.sgi-usa.org/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&am p;Store_Code=SOS&Product_Code=4100&Category_Code=WOD IChanting Nam myoho renge kyoNichiren taught that all of the benefits of the wisdom contained in the Lotus Sutra can be realized by chanting its title Nam Myoho Renge Kyo. Chanting these words and excerpts from the Lotus Sutra is the core of this Buddhist practice, supported by study and the propagation of teachings. Faith, practice and study are the basics of the Buddhist practice, pursuing activities for oneself and activities for the sake of others.

A Quest for Global Peace: Rotblat and Ikeda on War, Ethics and the Nuclear Threat The exchanges between the late Sir Joseph Rotblat, a renowned physicist and 1995 Nobel peace laureate, and Buddhist thinker Daisaku Ikeda reveal hard-won convictions in the primacy of nuclear disarmament as the only effective deterrent to world-scale war. The co-authors contend that the application of 20th-century science and technology requires a 21st-century growth in newfound wisdom arising from basic human values that transcend the limitations of knowledge and state sovereignty. They share the view that moral leadership for the restoration of peace lies not only within the scientific community but also institutions of governance, faith and education. “A Quest for Global Peace” was Rotblat’s final published work, having passed away in August 2005 at the age of 96.
