About Me

Order Merch HEREQuinta Essentia was started in 2004 by songwriter, vocalist, and guitarist Jason F. with the intention to push to the limit of capability and extend the boundaries of extreme underground black and death metal. As bassist of the US Black Metal band Blood Stained Dusk (Baphomet/Necropolis Records) since 99' he decided to begin a new project that would focus on ferocity and the artistry of musical depth. With the initiative to rule the earth with a colossal sound that carries reality and imagination to a dark world, Quinta Essentia, displays this epic summoning with their live performance and recording. In writing the epic song structures, the industrious work is displayed in every live and studio endeavor. The work ethic that is devoted to Quinta Essentia's music is truly a credible aspect of the longevity that is dedicated to the band's current and future work. There is a heavy focus to project technical and progressive musicianship into the dreary and dark realms of extreme metal. A dark and melodic touch sometimes greets dischorded madness while a structured arrangement may flow into changing time signatures. This allows to create music that is channeling the darkness and with enough substance to capture the attention of those looking for something with depth and technicality for the purpose of metal. All of the music to be recorded on the debut release was written and arranged by Jason Flippo. With longtime friend Lee Hurst on drums the two prpared the material for the studio. Thom Mathews then joined the band to record the first Quinta Essentia record before becoming a solo artist. While recording the record the band caught the attention of Evan from Deathgasm Records and he immediately signed the band and agreed to release their first album. The band was unleashed unto the scene with its debut release in 2006 titled "Neutrality For Defined Chaos" on Deathgasm Records. Great reviews poured in speaking of the band's concept, originality in structure, guitar work, and many other attributes of this bands creative personality. The band has built a persistent fan base with its live performance and debut release. The debut album was mastered by James Murphy(Death, Obituary, Testament, Disincarnate). After recording "Neutrality For Defined Chaos" the band hit the road sharing the stage with bands such as Immolation, Impaled, Monstrosity, Hellwitch, Hallows Eve, Paths of Possession, Vital Remains, and Skinless. The band was also asked to perform at the Chicago Metal Devastation Festival two years in a row along with a performance at the New York Death In the Forest Festival. Matt Barnes is someone whom Jason had known from the local scene and from working together on several musical endeavors. Matt joined to perform live bass following the release of "Neutrality For Defined Chaos". He quickly then moved to guitar and became a full time Quinta Essentia member replacing Thom Mathews. The band then entered Stargate Studios to begin recording their 2nd album in August of 2007. An autumn North American tour is in order for October extending from coast to coast. Convergence From Within guitarist Matt Odom has joined Quinta Essentia to perform live bass duties. He performed his first two shows with the band in May of 2007. Lee Hurst has left the band and is replaced by Lance Wright on drums. The new album is titled "Archetypal Transformation" and will be available in stores for a Dec./Jan release. The recording lineup will be Jason Flippo:guitar/vocals/bass, Matt Barnes: guitar, Lance Wright: drums. The unleashing of the new material will be a new chapter unfolded for Quinta Essentia. They are taking their sound of dark, shredding, energetic, powerful, magical, and profound music to the level of the transformation just as in the album title. It will lead into the phases of the subconscious which will be the calling of the ritual sound for this record. Carrying to the next stage of metamorphosis this brings the power of dark energy which encompasses the majority of our universe into the channeling beyond death, into dreams, and into ritual meditation. In the dark, extreme metal of Quinta Essentia, moods evolve from an atmospheric, dark, and progressive sound to a more furious and menacing attack. On the first record the conceptual basis for Quinta Essentia has a lyrical approach focusing in on philosophy, the occult, astrophysics, and also the ancient civilization's vision of Quintessence. There are also subjects such as the inevitable human apocalypse and dark matter among other lyrical concepts. One song presents the of gathering energies from the darkness of the cosmic background in Hidden Constellation (A Journey Through the Missing Masses). The new material has taken an even more aggressive feel with all of the originality and atmospheric twists to reflect the next logical progression and beyond expectation. It is set to crush more than ever and bring about the next chapter in their epic sound. Lyrically, Archetypal Transformation represents the altered state of consciousness. Dream travel, death, ritual meditative focus are all the original and primal states of extension to transform. It is the ascension from repeated human characteristics which are catalysts of disaster of the past, present, and future. Its is driven by deaths energy and by the darkness of the ethereal background. This ethereal background holds together our world yet is slowly expanding. This mass is called dark energy or to astrophysics is called "quintessence". The name has several meanings in history and in the present day record spanning from philosophy, the occult, alchemy, astrophysics, and ancient civilizations view of the fifth essence. Its connection to these is somewhat relative and evident although Quinta Essentia is definitive of dark and powerful extreme metal. Quinta Essentia is furious, deep, and experimental extreme metal with the originality, drive, and vitality that it takes to explode in the extreme music genre.
