My name is Maria Rosario Pilar Martinez Molina Baeza but you can call me Charo. I was about 9 when I started to learn how to play the guitar. Andrés Segovia, the father of modern classical guitar, had taught me how to play the guitar. Not much later I started appearing on stages in clubs. When I was 19, I performed songs on the guitar as well as a comedy act in night clubs. Although I wasn’t too big worldwide, I was very popular in the Spanish community. The first person to really notice my talents was my ex-husband, Xavier Cugat. He took me to America and there I found that he wasn't the one for me. I divorced him and found my soul mate in my Manager, to which I'm still married to today, Kjell Rasten.I worked hard and finally I started to make a name for myself. I appeared in the television shows Ironside, Fantasy Island, The Love Boat, and Chico and the Men. I also appeared in the movie Tiger by the Tail and The Concorde: Airport ’79. I also started my singing career. I released three albums, Cuchi-Cuchi, Olé Olé, and Dancing with Charo. I also made a single, “Mommy, Where’s Santa Claus?â€For a while I had disappeared to Hawaii, where I took a break from the life of fame. However, I made a comeback when I released a Latin album Guitar Passion. Although my songs were not played too much on the radio, my album was rated in the top 50 in the Billboard charts for a total of four months. A little later I appeared in the animated movie Thumbelina as the voice of Mrs. Toad. After that I released another album by the name of Blame it on the Macarena. The last album that I released was Charo and Guitar. These days, I go on tours worldwide, play at community theatres, symphony concerts, as well as shows in Las Vegas, along with private parties and functions all on a regular basis. Now-a-days you may have seen me on VH1s “I Love the 70s Volume 2†and "The Surreal Life" and Geico, Sprint, and KY Jelly commercials.
