About Me

Call me Harmonic Squeal...or just plain Squeal...or even Justus Groovus...or Groovus for short. There's a few other aliases floating around but even I can't remember them. Or is it that I don't want to remember them??? They do say that the memory is the first thing to go...
Regardless, my name is Justin and I am co-guitarist, booking agent, webmaster, manager and basically the jack-of-all-trades for Tykküs . We're a metal band hailing out of Phoenix, Arizona. Have you heard of us? We've gotten tons of exposure over the past couple of years, airplay on a half-dozen radio stations, write-ups in the local papers as well as a couple of national fan-zines, numerous websites, stuff like that. We've shared the stage and played with some killer bands including Dokken, Holy Soldier, Neon Cross, Vengeance Rising/Once Dead, Blissed, Saint, Ultimatum, Rivera/Bomma...the list keeps getting bigger!
I am also the 'fill-in' guitarist for Ultimatum until such time that they score a full time guitarist. This is a temporary gig of course because several hundred miles of desert between Albuquerque & Phoenix do not make for a good band situation! So for now I am playing shows with them as much as time and finances will allow. Keep your eyes peeled here as I'll be posting upcoming dates when I'll be playing with them!
For all you gearheads, here's a list of all the goodies I use...
Guitars:
Gibson Les Paul Standard, cherry sunburst, EMG 81/81
Custom Kramer neck-through, black metallic, EMG 81/85
Agile AL2000, black flame top, EMG 81/85
Agile AL2000, natural flame top, Duncan Distortion (bridge) '59 (neck)
Fender Esprit, Duncan JB (bridge) '59 (neck)
Fender American Strat, Stevie Ray Vaughn Signature, Texas Specials
Amplifiers:
Rig One...
Peavey XXX tube head
Rig Two...
Mesa/Boogie Stereo Simul-Class 295 tube power amp
Peavey Rockmaster tube preamp
Furman Power Conditioner
Pedalboard...
Boss Tuner TU-2
Dunlop Crybaby From Hell Wah
Boss Distortion DS-1
Boss Noise Suppressor NS-2
Rocktron The Hush Noise Suppressor
Boss Chorus Ensemble CE-5
BBE Sonic Stomp
Boss Digital Delay DD-2
It's all pretty basic. After years of running my massive rack system (affectionately known as "Rackus Maximus") I've gone back to a straightforward signal path of guitars --- pedals --- amplifier. I'm still experimenting with placement and such but I'm really enjoying the tones I'm getting.
With both systems, I use two Jackson 4x12 cabinets loaded with 50 watt custom voiced Eminence speakers.
For smaller non-metal related gigs:
Behringer V-Tone GMX210 2x10 combo
Seymour Duncan Pickup Booster pedal
Boss SD-1 Super Overdrive
MXR Wylde Overdrive
Ibanez Tremolo
BBE Sonic Stomp
I think that's it...for now at least. There's some other toys here and there but these are my old stand-bys. I don't have a problem with accumulating equipment, do I?
