About Me

DEBUT RECORD OUT NOW...MADS THORSEN'S STRINGS & THINGS Hi everybody out there! I've put up here a few selections of a coming cd with my new 2 guitar line up. Niclas, on guitar, recorded with a.o. Matthew Garrison and Adam Nussbaum. Martin on drums did work with a.o. Yusef Lateef and New Jungle Orchestra. Guffi played with everybody, starting out in Mercer Ellington's big band when he was 19. Niclas plays the first solo on "Song For Leo" on his es335, I play the 2nd on my strat. "Our Blues" is two heads put together - one I did, one of Niclas'. "Det' min hylde" is a ballad of mine. We recorded the whole album to analog tape, and in this particular song the tape ran out towards the end! I decided to just keep it. God's will works in mysterious ways, and resigning to fate will...sometimes...be just the right way to go. I play the solo. "Marshmallow" is just me doing some noodling, a tribute to the great Warne Marsh. "26-2" is me noodling some more, with a tele, an es335, a '63 barney kessel that I should've kept, and a couple of acoustics. It's the trane tune, but fairly tinkered with.

Band Members: Mads Thorsen-Guitar/Niclas Knudsen-Guitar/Martin Andersen-Drums/Guffi Pallesen-Bass
Influences: Here's a video of me with my man Luther Thomas' smoking band at the famous Christiania Jazzclub. Luther is a really happening player and a great crazy dude too. Towards the end of my solo I get the idea that I want to quote some Charlie Parker blues heads, and I come up with 3. Come down to the club and there's a free danish Øko Thy beer waiting for ya if you can name all 3! :-))
