About Me

Odeya Nini (me :-) is a singer, songwriter, composer and dreamer. whatever comes next is open to your own interpretation. voice, melody, harmony, drum, drone, time, guitar, piano, saxophone, mbira, wistle, bass, roots, brooms, ears, bells, eyes and heart all join together as one. what happens when they come together nobody knows. rather then know, we try to form, unfold and feel into a creation.Born in New York to an Israeli Yemenite family, I moved to Israel when I was 15. Starting out studying theater at Thelma Yellin high school, only when I served in the army and started performing infront of soldiers, did I realize singing was my true due. In 2003 I moved back to NY to learn as much as I can about everything. Currently I study Jazz at New School University and have been performing my music around town for about 2 years. All the wonderful musicians playing with me stem from Jazz and are amazingly gifted and wonderful people. It has been an honor to collaborate with them. How to describe my music? mm.. that wouldnt be so simple. its a mosaic of influences and inspirations. Mostly its about transfusion. I, the composer, want to reach my voice across, reach my message and emotions and only hope that it will finds its place and time in the listeners ears and heart.A mix of Jazz, folk, and ethnic world, we seek the freedom within the frame, the distance within the box.
