I am here for Friends

About Me

about me:

/

My Interests

general:

feminism, environmentalism, social activism, friends, hair, escapism, travel, music, watching sports (mainly NFL, NBA, NCAA football and b-ball), bagels, pierogies, homemade bread, letters/e-mail, fun, silliness, love, affection, daydreaming, gallivanting around town, chillin' (I'm serious).

I'd like to meet:

i'd like to meet:

Old contacts. Old friends.

And intellectual, socially/politically-conscious types who aren't above acting/getting/being stupid with me.

Music:

music:

punk, pop, indie, rock, hardcore, hip-hop. I like a lot of stuff, actually. I like my music.

I also like my boys: Jon Hutt (all former and present projects included, except maybe for the Recyclone noise project. Harhar.), Derrick Hiltz (especially the ones where he sings), Jonah Campbell (anything where he'll take his shirt off...kidding...), and Canadian hip-hop y'all...makes me just want to run back to Canada (Recyclone, Buck 65, Sixtoo, Knowself, Pip Skid, etc).

Movies:

movies:

Grosse Pointe Blank, Say Anything. Non-John Cusack category: Wicker Park, Ask Me if I'm Happy, Shaun of the Dead, Malena, Whale Rider, Big Fish, Lucia y el sexo, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Les Invasions Barbares, 21 Grams, Dirty Pretty Things, Nabbie No Koi, Almost Famous, Bowling for Columbine, American Beauty, Life is Beautiful, Beautiful Girls, My Life Without Me, etc etc, bla bla bla.

Basically, most everything starring John Cusack and that Dian, the film critic and aficionado has the good heart to introduce me to. (But mainly of the funny, quirky, rockin', touching, dramatic sort.)

Television:

television:
Well, let's see...I have a Buffy doll (a birthday present), Buffy and Sarah Michelle Gellar book (a going away present), at least a dozen or so Buffy comics and memorabilia items, down to the Scooby gang lollipops (from care packages received over the years), the best compliment I've ever received is that 'When you smile, you remind me of Cordelia on Buffy the Vampire Slayer,' and two big ass Buffy and Angel posters that my boy toy, Jonah (I wish) peeled off some wall on some sidewalk on some street (?) in Canada to send to me here in Malaysia. Hmm...Do I really need to answer this one..? ;)
Other than that, keep me away from TV! I can be a tv junkie when left to my own devices. I'm easily hooked on friendship, sexy, comedic, political, satirical, smart ass shows. You know the types...C.S.I, Sex and the City, Will and Grace, Arrested Development, Gilmore Girls, Desperate Housewives, Everybody Hates Chris, Chapelle's Show, the Daily Show, Conan O'Brien, Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, Malcolm in the Middle, etc etc bla bla bla. And I'm not averse to reruns, either (So help me God). I'm also still recovering from my late, late, late night (at least in Halifax) Politically Incorrect with Bill Maher and also, General Hospital fixation from the late 1990s.

Books:

books:

Bite Me! Sarah Michelle Gellar and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. (Kidding...But such a great gift:)

Mainly non-fiction.

Heroes:

heroes:

Marina Mahathir

I have so many...Margaret Cho, Kathleen Hanna, Marina Mahathir, Arundhati Roy, Asha Gill, Debbie Harry, Jack Hanna, Angelina Jolie, Steve Nash, Dirk Nowitzki, Amare (that should be a one word/name phenom, but just in case, I mean Stoudemire), Tun Dr. Mahathir, my CEO, my friends.

Basically, 1) everyone who's out there chasing and/or living their dreams. And 2) regardless of whether it's a 'fluffy' or 'serious' thing that they're doing in their lives, people who take time out from their lives to do other and/or bigger stuff.

Because life and the world doesn't just revolve around you and the people you know. Because it's both a bigger and smaller world out there.

And therein ends my attempt to start a book/collection on Shaheera-ism.. ;)
