About Me

"Love the gift of your life and do no harm."
By Mark Belletini

Let the sky above me unroll like a scroll,
and let me read upon it today’s text for my life:
“You are alive, here and now.
Love boldly and always tell the truth.”
Let the wind arrange the naked branches
of the maples and aspens and oaks
into letters which proclaim this sacred text:
“Your heart beats now,
not tomorrow or yesterday.
Love the gift of your life and do no harm.”
Let the eyes and hands and faces
of all men and women and children
with whom I share this earth
be chapter and verse in this great scripture text:
“Life is struggle and loss, and also
tenderness and joy.
Live all of your life, not just part of it.”
And now let all the poems and scriptures and novels and films and songs and cries and lullabies and prayers and anthems open up before our free hearts. Let them open like a torah, like a psalm, like a gospel, like an apocalypse and let them procl..
“Do not think you can take away
each other’s troubles,
but try to be with each other in them.
Remember that you are part, not all,
great, but not by far the greatest,
small, precious brief breaths
in the great whirlwind of creation.”
And remember that every single human word is finally and divinely cradled in the strong and secure arms of Silence. *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
But in reality, I think this pretty much sums it up!
Okay. Here is what is what (and, if you've seen this before on my page, well, at least I'm consistent!):
--You know those newsletters your condo board sends you each month? I READ THEM. That's how I know they changed the trash pick-up day!!
--Be responsible for your actions and be an upstanding citizen. But, if someone honks at you or gets in your face, you have the right to give 'em the finger.
--I like talking about stuff. I like people who are interesting and have had different experiences than me. People who have a life of their own and are fun and outgoing and want to do things together. If you're shy or quiet, you're going to bore me to tears.
--I love watching Eagles football on TV while eating wings and drinking beer in a bar. I also like Vodka on the rocks, cigars and a nice steak. Or, Jager shots, someone cute to kiss and Love Seed Mama Jump on stage. Or eating steamed dumplings, miso soup and unagi sushi while tossing out polite phrases in Korean, Japanese and Chinese to the sushi chefs.
--I'm a very busy girl, so relaxing is a rare but cherished event. But let's put it this way: I'd rather be social than working, so don't ever think I'm too busy to hang out or talk!
--I think volunteering is important and everyone should volunteer within their community in some small way, be it for a local festival, an animal shelter, with the elderly, cleaning up a nature center, or working with kids.
--I've learned people don't look like they do in their photographs. When you see them in person, it's like you're meeting a whole different person. Don't go based on photos alone.

"Landscape with the Fall of Icarus"
William Carlos Williams (1962)
when Icarus fell
it was spring
a farmer was ploughing
his field
the whole pageantry
of the year was
awake tingling
near
the edge of the sea
concerned
with itself
sweating in the sun
that melted
the wings' wax
unsignificantly
off the coast
there was
a splash quite unnoticed
this was
Icarus drowning
This will never happen to me, but it's nice to dream.

Movies:

I reviewed my list of favorite movies, and it appears I like those where the guy is persistent to win the girl's heart, and once he has it, he never lets it go.

--The Family Man (yes, with Nicholas Cage)
--50 First Dates
--The Holiday
--Hope Floats
--While You Were Sleeping
--Empire Strikes Back
--Wuthering Heights (the original with Sir Lawrence Olivier)
--Stealing Home
--Rebel Without a Cause
--National Treasure

Television:

I watch Cashmere Mafia, Lost, ER and Las Vegas, plus Eagles football. I like to watch PBS and am annoyed that I am hooked on such cable channels as "E!" and "Style" and "HGTV" and "Discovery." I'm thinking of adding "30 Rock" and "The Office" for some comedic relief.

Books:

Basically, I read things that sound interesting to me, be it fiction or non-fiction. I'm reading "A Clearing in the Distance: Frederick Law Olmstead and American in the Nineteenth Century" by Witold Rybczynski.

My favorite author is Jane Austen. I read the local newspaper every morning. I prefer to date guys who read -- nothing better than laying in bed together on Sunday morning, reading our own things and then talking about it.

Heroes:

--Those who defend my country and my freedom

--Michael Jordan -- has been since I was in high school!

--Successful entreprenuers who live modestly but comfortably

--Any Philadelphia Sports team that actually wins a championship

--Anyone who saves a life
