About Me

Born on May 7th 1982 in Bacolor City, Pampanga Philippines, his family migrated to Toronto on 1992. Though at an early age of 8, he was already influenced by the sounds of Michael Jackson, Run DMC, Vanilla Ice to name a few who where the most popular artist then in the Philippines. And he also listened to popular local artist like Andrew E. and Gary V. at the time. But at age 12, living in Toronto, he was opened with the new popular sounds of hip hop making him develop versatility in the creation of music. As time progresses, he was influenced by many kinds of artists from the fast-pace style of Busta Rhymes to the unique vocal sound of B-Real of Cypress Hill and many other influential western artists of the time. Jamming and performing rap skills amongst friends and other influenced followers. Coming from a talented family in the music section, it came naturally for Beejay to entertain. When he was 16, he’d realized that he had a voice and discovered his passion for singing. He had then started to develop his style, even without vocal lessons to help his talent to develop. But purely listening to such artists like Brian McKnight, Mariah Carey, different groups like Boyz II Men and all hit makers that came along the way. By this stage, he was requested and wanted to perform in many functions, programs, special events, shows, occasions held in Toronto. And so he did. In 1997, with singing and rapping already existing amongst his artistic talent, he started writing and composing songs, concentrating on the material side of music. Which lead him to record demos along with music partner/friend J.B.. Eventually forming a group called “Nexx Edition” with the two talented brothers from D’Extreme Dancers Richard and Marlon Liguidliguid. Then, an idea sparked in 1999, which ironically brought them back to their former home, (Phil.), The Republic of the Philippines. A few months in the country, ironically, again, the famous controversial artist, Andrew E, who he used to listen to as a kid, was going to work with the group and had changed the groups name to the “B.u.M.P.Z”. Although things were to fall into place, sign deals. A critical mishap was made that change Beejay’s destiny completely. The group couldn’t be signed under a major label in the country without having all complete members on board. Which a traumatized his dream, as failure exudes with him. After the millennium, he had to return back to Toronto for a new beginning. With school and work at hand, music was put into a hold, and had thought to put it all aside. Still, even through the years of trying to forget what had occurred in Phil., with the passion for music, it would always cloud him. Calling back what he loved most. And so, he wanted to continue and develop music and his own materials even more. Having to be opened up with using modern instruments/equipments, producing now was no longer a distant matter. Producing the sounds of music had always been in his mind since. Although beat-boxing was the only way or form he could convey the sounds/pattern he wanted. In 2005, having again to return in the Philippines, he and J.B. had released a team/collaboration debut album self titled “Beejay & J.B.”. A mix of Tagalog/English r&b/hip hop/rap/pop album distributed by Galaxy Records. With their single “Ayoko Na, Ayaw Mo Na”, it’s a piece of art a little advance for the country time. This present, while constantly writing and composing his own materials, he has created over a hundred instrumentals. Although his most preferred type of music is r&b/ballads and hip hop, he is also influenced by many forms of music, from alternative, rock, pop, jazz, classical and even theatrical score soundtracks. To this day at the age of 24, with the love of music in him, he has shaped himself to become a true Artist. Continually unfolding and develop his talents, trying to achieve and mold the sounds of r&b/hip hop from all sorts of sounds. Today, influenced by so many extraordinary artists, from Michael Jackson as a kid, to Boyz II Men, Brian McKnight, Sisqo, Jodeci/KC & Jojo, to Usher, Stevie Wonder, Mariah Carey, Tupac, Eminem, The Beatles. To Producer's with the likes of Timberland, Jermaine Dupri and the all time beat maestro idol Dr. Dre. Beejay can dispense soft to solid notes and deliver heart warming tunes as a singer. As a producer, he manages to transfer the musical concept in his mind to the hearable music format to supply a listener with great content. Whether would it would be in the R&B department or in the Hip hop department. He can arrange sampler’s that tells a story into one whole movie of music. Handed with updated equipments, he would always provide you innovative approach to newer and greater sounds of music. It's amazing how things have to change in order for us to further our steps; and it's amazing how WE have to change just so life would be different: the sacrifices we make just so, maybe, our dreams will finally appear. To finally satisfy us, and definitively, finally reveal and show us what our purposes is are. As I have noticed, all things must begin and come to end, yet it is everything that's in between that is the most essential, the most valuable, the most meaningful pieces of this puzzle - of our puzzles. As we, notice all things are changing from their form to another, we adapt; or try to adapt the meanings. Some may be effortless, yet some, may be difficult. And it's the changes might be painful that hits us the most, reflect us the most - while they are happening, or at their very end. As we become elusive with life’s boundaries, we still only try to manage, keep up. Some will patch, or try to make sense of what has been given. Some will try to turn pages. And some, eventually will try to fix matters - equates portions to force them off. Cry them it off. Laugh them it off. I think that as these things happen, for whatever reason, for whatever purpose, choice still remains and exudes - when we reminisce on our pasts, maybe look back on what we’ve accomplished and what we haven’t. To look back on ourselves, maybe way back to when we used to play as kids, with the wrongs and the rights in the past stuck in our minds. For a moment we may turn our heads, grin, gesturing in disbelief. We still live. Surviving. So as time plays, we realize that what is happening now, as in right now, our very present, becomes an understanding of placement in all its angles, practically giving the most inevitable feeling we will ever posses. -Beejay Torres
