Yggdrasil was formed in the beginning of the year 2001 by the three members Magnus, Gustaf and Jeremy, who still make out the band to this day. At the end of the same year the first demo “Kvällning†(“Evenfallâ€) was recorded and self-released in 50 copies.
The demo produced great interest in the band, and this lead to the participation on the “Metal Rules vol. 1†compilation CD released by Metal-Rules.com among other acts such as Jag Panzer, Persuader and Overlorde.
A shortened version of the track “Gryningstid†was recorded for this purpose in the autumn of 2002, and at the end of the year the second demo “I Nordens Rike†(“In the Northern Realmâ€) was recorded.
In 2003 Gustaf joined the military and the band was put to rest until the following year when the recording of a third demo was commenced. This recording was never finished though as the band was approached by a record label who offered a deal to record a full length album. The band returned the rehearsal room to re-arrange the songs from the first two demos, and in the spring of 2005 the album “Kvällningsvindar Över Nordrönt Land†(“Evening Winds Over Northern Landâ€) was recorded.
Two years passed by without the album seeing the light of day, so in the beginning of 2007 the band set out to find a new and more reliable record label, and a few months later a deal was signed with German label Det Germanske Folket.
The debut album "Kvällningsvindar Över Nordrönt Land" was unleashed in December 2007.
