NASHÉKA SIDDALL has always said that she was blessed to have been born and raised in New York City, because it is this city along with the love and support of her family that has helped NASHÉKA pursue her greatest passion, singing. Since the age of five, singing has been a fundamental part of NASHÉKA’s life, and she has taken every opportunity to demonstrate her gift. In showcases, talent shows, church, and at family gatherings, NASHÉKA had the encouragement of her loved ones to sing, which she feels is one of the greatest honors to have on one’s side. “When you have a support system like your family behind you, you are given the strength to forge a road through which you can pursue your goals with confidence.â€NASHÉKA’s gift of song was recognized and appreciated by her high school music teacher. While there, her music teacher encouraged her to sing, and worked with NASHÉKA on her vocal technique, while also introducing her to a wide variety of repertoire. This repertoire included Opera, Arias and Lieder, Broadway tunes, Rhythm and Blues, and popular songs. While attending Dowling College in Long Island, NASHÉKA studied music history, music theory, and drama. She later transferred to the State University of New York, in Purchase. Because of their strong Performing Arts program at Purchase, she continued her studies in music and the dramatic arts. It was at Purchase, during her sophomore year that she learned of the auditions for the popular television show American Idol. The initial stages of the competition accommodated approximately 80,000 singers, and through a series of subsequent auditions, she advanced through the competition to become one of the 32 finalists, the only person remaining from New York to make the finals out of 20,000 people, and ultimately she became one of the final four chosen to perform on television, and judged by the popular opinion poll. NASHÉKA feels that the American Idol experience was an excellent introduction to the demands of entertainment field. It was a very positive experience for it taught her how to accept criticism, when to believe in herself and her ability over the recommendations of the critics, and how to accept a temporary setback, knowing that sometimes you have to take one step back to take two steps forward while keeping your career on track. While working on her craft, NASHÉKA earned a living working as a private personal trainer for the New York Health and Racquet Club. She has worked closely with the singing duo, Ashford and Simpson and has showcased at their club, the Sugar Bar, in New York City. It is here that she had her debut showcasing a repertoire of sixteen songs backed by a band of four instrumentalists, and two back-up singers. NASHÉKA continues to appear at the Sugar Bar, perfecting her craft, and trying out new repertoire. In the spring and summer of 2004, she toured the West coast, specifically San Francisco and Los Angeles, with her band. She has also appeared in Jacksonville, Florida and Holbolk County where she performed at “Reggae on the River†for a capacity crowd.NASHÉKA has also spent her time strongly towards growing in her field, while perfecting her craft in music and performing. She performs lead vocals, writes and tours with the Reggae, soul, and R&B band, “Leon and the peoplesâ€. Also starring the actor, “Leon†from the “Five Heart Beatsâ€, and the “Temptationsâ€, among many other films. In the fall of 2006, NASHÉKA worked on several tours all over the U.S.A. opening up and performing with, Sony R&B recording artists, Lyfe Jennings, Vivian Green, and Goapele. It was there that she spent time writing, performing, and learning the business. She was then offered the tour to perform and open up for legendary reggae artists, Berres Hammond, and Marcia Griffith, which she began in January 2007.While doing what she loves to do, she found a way to coincide that, with the things that are of need in this world, by working with several organizations in HIV and Aids awareness. NASHÉKA has been seen in functions and shows, where she has performed and been able to discuss the awareness of this Virus like, “the AIDS walk U.S.Aâ€. NASHÉKA has followed her interest into becoming a licensed prevention educator. Where she is able to reach people with her words, her voice, her music, and be reached back in return. She has found a way to give back to her community while testing people of all ages, and encouraging our youth to feel good about their lives, and to be smart about the choices we make in our lives. “Music is me, through life, expression, song, and love,†NASHÉKA has taken that time while performing and writing, to live her music, and to experience from life, and from others, while continuing aspirations to be able to reach all different people with her music, and her voice.“I have found my niche in the world, now I am ready to see what the world has to offer, and what I can give back to the world.†-- Nashéka Siddall.
