math is a basis. it is my footing and i try to check my work each day. in fact, i get in trouble when i don't check it. math in life comes in the form of a personal philosophy... it is quite simple really. if you live by this, life is much easier even though many people don't take it for what it is. many would never really appreciate it but if you think of it from a completely analytical and logical perspective, the sense is there for the taking. i suppose it should be read that this can apply to just about everything in life, except for love. i would never dare try to explain that little four-letter word.
the principle is this... every problem has a solution. even when the solution is hard to obtain, like in math... you can make various assumptions (constants and coefficients in equations) to get to that solution. sometimes, we go through life trying to figure out things and people because all along we think that there is no end to them. the thing is that you can go by your entire life trying to figure something out but it's the craze of knowing that there is at least one unique solution to every problem that gives us our little spells and anxieties. just like in math... you have a solution, which means there was a question/problem to start with. the best thing you can get out of all of this is this... if there is no solution, then there was no problem (not vice versa) to begin with. so if you get what you want in life, for example, then there was no problem to begin with. it almost makes it so that you absolutely get stuck with a set of problems all your life because no one really gets what he or she wants in life. i think that is one way of explaining this. no proofs nor algebraic expressions or anything like that... just logical thinking, i suppose. word to the purist mathematicians and word to those of you who always say "i hate math!" Q.E.D.

Convolution
A convolution is an integral that expresses the amount of overlap of one function g as it is shifted over another function f. It therefore "blends" one function with another. For example, in synthesis imaging, the measured dirty map is a convolution of the "true" CLEAN map with the dirty beam (the Fourier transform of the sampling distribution). The convolution is sometimes also known by its German name, faltung ("folding").
Abstractly, a convolution is defined as a product of functions f and g (i.e., f*g) that are objects in the algebra of Schwartz functions in R^n (real space). Convolution of two functions f and g over a finite range <[i>0,t] is given by
where the symbol f*g (occasionally also written as f tensor g) denotes convolution of f and g. Convolution is more often taken over an infinite range,
The animations above graphically illustrate the convolution of two rectangle functions (first) and two Gaussians (second). In the plots, the green curve shows the convolution of the blue and red curves as a function of t, the position indicated by the vertical green line. The gray region indicates the product g(tau)f(t-tau) as a function of t, so its area as a function of t is precisely the convolution.
