HISTORY:
The word “alt†means old in German and refers to the tradition of making beer before lager beers became available in the nineteenth century. Basically, Alt beers are German brown ales that are modeled after the types of beers that are produced in Düsseldorf, Germany. The major difference between Alt beers (German brown ales) and American or British ales is the fermentation temperature and the length of cold storage (aging) in the brewery before the beer is produced for consumption. Alts are fermented at colder temperatures and are aged longer than other ales. This will impart a much cleaner and more balanced taste in the finished beer. Our newest Select, Alt beer, is an example of this Düsseldorf-style German ale.
Our Alt beer is very similar to the commercially produced alt beers that are made in Düsseldorf today. It is made with all German Weyermann malts and is hopped and dry hopped with German Tettnanger hops. This is going to give the beer a very malty character and a pleasant hop aroma and flavor. The result is an aromatic light colored brown ale with a rich malty taste.

INFO: Abita Red Ale is a traditional red ale available March through June.
It is brewed with British pale and crystal malts, Liberty hops and an ale yeast imported from Ireland. This ale has a rich ruby color, lacy collar, pronounced caramel flavor and is a tad "hoppier" than our other brews.
"Strange Brew" was started with the idea that you don't have to suffer thru another miserable night at a crap-hole bar with disgusting, over-priced drinks just because there isn't anywhere else to go. We believe in the ability to hear what the person in front of you is saying and being able to walk around freely without some young punk calling you out for brushing their shoulder because there is no room in the area. "Strange Brew" offers you an alternative: lots of room, a modest sound system, and, FDA approved, tasty beverages. As for the BS, if your attitude stinks, carry your ass down the street. We don't want you, don't need you, and sure as hell won't tolerate you. This is a place for fun and excitement only. We offer four pool tables and 2 dart boards with all the right measurements and plenty of space. Once here, ask for any one of our 100+ brews. We promise you won't be disappointed.
