SoloUniko is a new fashion brand that does tailored clothes with a quirky twist. The name is a conjunction of two spanish words which mean "one and only", and comes from the fact that all items are limited edition. The two parts of the name also refers to the different origins and experiences that the two designers, Charlotta and Sam, bring to the table. Charlotta is born and raised in south Sweden, but moved to London at the age of 18. Sam comes from Angola, where his father was a tailor. He has also lived in Portugal, Spain, London and now Stockholm.
SoloUniko was born in London when Charlotta and Sam inherited a sewingmachine from Charlottas grandmother. Their designs has since the start developed from customized clothes to full collections for men and women. SoloUniko is based in Stockholm since 2004, but London is still their main influence. Classic British tailoring is a an inspiration, and the focus is to design well tailored items with perfect fit. Charlotta and Sam work a lot with different cuts to give the clothing its special twist despite the classic inspiration. The colourscheme used is always based on dark and demure tones like black, grey, brown and beige, and the fabrics are often typically British such as tweed and wool.
The essence of SoloUniko can be summed up in the words "Stylish, tailored and quirky". An important influence that affects the process of creation as well as the finished product, is music. Blues, jazz and soul from the 30ths and onwards as well as modern British sounds is the main source of inspiration.
