Annelise Nelson, a native of Northern Utah, is currently living in Savannah, GA. She recently completed a master of music degree in cello performance at the Manhattan School of Music. She also holds a bachelor of music degree from Purchase College. Her original intention was to play the oboe (gasp! nothing against the oboe, really, it just seems like such a pain in the ass to make all those reeds!) but luckily her father planted a little idea in her head that involved stringed instruments and at age ten she began her studies on the cello with Dr. James McWhorter. Other private teachers include Michael Carrera, Peter Wiley, Julia Lichten, David Geber, Margo Tatgenhorst-Drakos, and David Soyer. She has attended music festivals including Musicorda, Killington, and the Music Academy of the West. Annelise loves learning and performing classical music of all types, but is trying to find a new path and broaden her musical language by going back to her roots of growing up surrounded by jazz, bossa nova and bluegrass. She is eager to explore and expand her voice on the cello! When she is not running around at the beach (or longing for the west), Ms. Nelson spends her time teaching privately and freelancing as much as she can. Her latest project is a new group with Maggie and Jackson Evans. Check them out at jacksonevans.com/calicos.html.
