My Step-Dad: Gary Lee Fenhaus
Gary could light up a room with his humor, warm personality and endless energy. His many friends, neighbors and co-workers he enjoyed treating like family. Gary was a perfectionist and it showed in the immaculate care he gave his hobby farm, pets, home and business.
Working for Dun-rite Exteriors since 1974, he learned the siding and roofing business from the ground up. Through the years Gary achieved co-ownership, and in 1995 his dream of becoming sole owner of Dun-rite came true. Under his leadership, Gary developed it not only into a family-owned and operated business, but into one of the premier state-certified businesses in the Wausau area.Gary passed away Monday, Sept. 1, 2008, at his home at the age of 49.
He was born Oct. 30, 1958, in Wausau to Edward and Louann Fenhaus of Wausau. On Sept. 7, 1996, Gary married the "dear of his life" Gloria at St. Agnes Catholic Church, Schofield. Together they lived in the town of Wausau where Gary enjoyed working on the property and taking care of his horses, steers, cats and dogs -- especially his favorite dog and best little buddy, Baxter. Gary's morning always started out with telling Baxter, "It's going to be a herd dog diggity day!" There wasn't anything Gary couldn't fix, build or grow. In his free time, he liked restoring old motorcycles and snowmobiles. Gary always made time to watch Bill O'Reilly or NASCAR racing.
Along with Gloria, Edward and Louann, Gary is survived by his daughter, Nicole of Ashland, Ore., his inherited children, Jeremy of Charleston, S.C., Justin, Jenna and Jared of the town of Wausau; two brothers, Ronald (Nancy) Fenhaus of Weston and Mark Fenhaus of Wausau; two sisters, Pam (Ron) Hoppe and Lisa (Scott) Johnson, all of Wausau; his dog, Baxter; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and many friends. The funeral Mass was celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, 2008, at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 6101 Zinser St., Schofield. The Rev. Joseph Rafacz officiated. The pallbearers that assisted were Tyler Fenhaus, Jackson Hoppe, Ron Hoppe, Scott Johnson, Jeremy Petroske, James Schneck, Paul Reissman and Paul Sillars.
Helke Funeral Home, Wausau, assisted the family with arrangements.
