About Me

Ahaguna G. Sun is a commanding percussionist, vocalist, songwriter, arranger and producer who continues to leave his mark in the R&B world. Spending his youth singing in his father’s Baptist church in his home town of Pulaski, Tennessee gave Ahaguna a little taste of what would come of his life. As he felt driven to explore music further, his appetite for the drums grew. So, after graduating from high school, Ahaguna moved to Los Angeles, where his real journey began. As a young man in Los Angeles, he taught himself to play the drums by listening to the radio and other drummers. Playing the drums became Ahaguna’s main professional focus, but he also established himself as a soulful singer/songwriter. Working with Lou Rawls was Ahaguna’s first foray into the big time, but it was going on tour with Frankie Beverly and Maze, and the legendary Teddy Pendergrass that truly placed Ahaguna on the musical map. Ahaguna’s roots are definitely steeped in the fantastic funk and soul sound of the 70’s. Ahaguna found his talents not only expanding , but in high demand as well hitting the road with the Soul Train Gang, The Lotters, and the Whispers to name but a few. Throughout his professional career Ahaguna has toured the world, including London, Paris and Vienna, playing with some of the most legendary artists of our time. Most recently, Ahaguna was called upon to perform in North Korea for a peace and unification concert sponsored by the Hyandai Corp., which was also covered live by CNN. Ahaguna’s latest adventure is Big Advice a collection of youth and experience that is creating the new sound of R&B, inspired by the potential a relationship of musical veterans with today’s up and comers could create led Ahaguna to this collaborative effort. Ahaguna’s list of credits include: Two gold albums with Frankie Beverly and Maze, four extensive world tours with Island recording artist The Looters, Teddy Pendergrass, Lou Rawls, Bo Diddley, Hank Ballard and The Midnighters, Charles Wright and the Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band, Roger Smith, Carrie Lucas, Tanya Scarlett, The Whispers, Sun Bear, (Recording artist with Soul Train Records) Farm Aid with Willie Nelson and Friends, President Clintons first Inaugural Ball and numerous fund raisers. His rhythmic and melodic approach to music is laced with passion, as is evident with every project he is affiliated with. He is learned but is in a perpetual state of learning which places him in a high regard as a musicians musician. Not only is Ahaguna G. Sun still making great music, he is making history as well.
