Well, as luck would have it - May was NOT the uneventful month we had hoped for. The good news is that all SEEMS to be returning to normal, but some of the fun issues from May included Kacy (dog) getting VERY sick which resulted in some much needed and nasty cleaning duties at a brand new house as well as some ultra fun vet visits and bills. We also learned our favorite 100' tree in our front yard is dying and will have to be removed - which sucks. One of my favorite topics this past month was the discovery that I had in fact broke a finger as suspected, but it was healing crooked ... so I had hand surgery in May where it was RE-BROKE and then screwed into place. Now a week later the stitches are out but my finger hurts worse than before and I have NO mobility in it - but the doctor assures me it will be better than new in a few weeks. What sucks most about this injury is that is my fret had while playing the guitar and as such has limited my ability to maintain my favorite hobby ever since the injury a month ago!!!
We've had some fun taking pics of Skyler as you can see in my pics section. We have a little music series going now and have some really cool shots blown up and framed in my music room - pretty excited about that (even though I've not been able to go up there and play much lately due to the injury). Other news is pretty mundane - spent some time doing some yard work at the new place trying to get it established (new mulch, fertilizers, water sealing the decks, looking into a roof over my patio area [under one of the decks], treating for bugs on that dying tree mentioned earlier, etc...). Typical home owner kind of stuff, but the kinds of things that take more time and money when it is a new home just to get things established - not to mention how fun they are to do with a hand healing from surgery and with a new baby inside the house.
I feel like I have no time these days to commit to anything else, but I think I need a project for my sanity. Music (bands) have been my primary project over the last six or seven years, with a few home projects thrown in here and there (especially when between bands). Since retiring from local bands last fall I have struggled with the "what next" phase of life. I wanted to be more readily available as a husband and father and still agree with own decision to put music much lower on the priority scale ... but I need some long terms goals to set my sights toward. I want to do something with music, but do not want to sacrifice too much time away from home - so maybe there is a light-hearted project out there for me, or perhaps I'll do a one-man recording project at home where I lay down all the instruments. ?????? I have several other projects and desires around the house, but those don't build on themselves like a music project does. Once I complete that project, the task is over. With a band or music project, once you finish a song or an album you can then record it, produce it, play it live on stage, shoot a video for it .... you can continue to build off that first investment of time and effort (letting it morph, change, and take on new meaning from the original concept)- something I found very fulfilling while starting several of the bands I was in during my past. What to do, what to do???
