About Me

Colchester United Football Club are an English football team who, after finishing 2nd in League One for the 2005/6 season are competing in the Championship in 2006/07, for the first time in their history. They are currently doing alot better than preseason expectations and are on form for a play-off spot.
The club was formed in 1937, and have always played their home games at Layer Road. Colchester had remained a lower division club throughout their league history until the 2006-07 season. Their highest ever finish, second in League One came last season, the resulting promotion guaranteeing that this will be superseded. A few years ago they even gave title holders Chelsea a run for their money, losing just 2-1 to them at Stamford Bridge after being 1-0 up.
In the summer the U's gained several new players who have had a very positive effect on the team, none more than star striker Jamie Cureton. Over the period Colchester also secured the contracts of Johnnie Jackson and Kevin McLeod, two very good signings by new manager Geraint Williams.
