IS THIS THING ON?

About Me

Singer and guitarist Jonathan Wimpee was raised in Gadsden, Alabama, and has been singing most of his life, starting in the back seat of his parent's 1973 Ford Galaxy 500. He began playing guitar at the young age of 13, and helped start a band called Zuzu and the Sunbeams at the age of 15. He joined the jazz band during his sophomore year of high school, and proceeded to win Alabama Jazz Educator's Jazz Guitarist of the year in 1990 and 1991. Jonathan's talent enabled him to win a full scholarship to Gadsden State Community College, where he played guitar and sang in the college band. In 1993 he was offered the opportunity to travel with a band called Chaz. He quit school and went on the road, playing a variety of music at clubs, resorts, and corporate parties. In January of 1999, Jon was asked to join Tim Brooks and the Alien Sharecroppers. While playing with the Alien sharecroppers Jonathan had the pleasure of not only touring nationally and internationally, but also sharing the stage with many of musics greats, including Lynrd Skynrd, Greg Allman and friends, Warren Haynes, Little Feat, Little River Band, Peter Mulvey and others.Jonathan's original material is americana rock blending folk, funk, blues, and the occasional bossa nova. His strong vocals and classic guitar style forge a soulful sound that is unique yet comfortably familiar.Recently Jonathan has been playing with the Alabama Skydogs and Milele Roots.
