About Me

Matthew Schultz has written music in a variety of styles and with a variety of purposes. His collection of commissions includes original music written for weddings, a collection of jazz standard arrangements for voice and jazz sextet, vocal a Capella group arrangements among other things.He has a degree in Jazz Composition from Towson University and has studied under Tim Murphy, Dr. William Kleinsasser, and David Ballou. He has studied Tango at the National University of Cuyo in Mendoza, Argentina with Susan Anton as well as traditional Salvadoran music in El Salvador with Professor Israel Bojorge the Salvadoran National Center for the Arts (CENAR). He also received an honorary diploma from the Salvadoran Nation Center for the Arts for lecturing about contemporary music and its influences on his own music.Along with other freelance work, he is currently playing with the bands The Beakers and Manifest as well as developing a large scale work for narrator and jazz ensemble about his experiences living in El Salvador. The latter work and the following forum discusses conflict and the lasting effects of violence on people's lives. Once completed, the work will be performed at Baltimore area high schools, universities and churches.
