The Oskorei Mythology
.......... Oskorei was founded in 2003 by band leader Blake Peterson, guitarist Ariel, bassist Kelsey, and drummer Corey Lee. At the time, they were 16 and 17 year old high school students from Walnut Creek, California, but more importantly, from San Francisco's East Bay area, a historical hot bed for Extreme Metal.
.......... They quickly realized that there were very few bands in the Bay Area with the same musical ideas as them. Not only were their thrash roots well defined, but they were influenced by a lot of Black/Death/Power Metal bands, and were more versed in the European (and old-school American) extreme metal sound than the newer American ‘hardcore’ or ‘metal-core’ style that so many bands were catching on to. What Oskorei developed was a unique style of blending genres, taking melodic death metal riffs, black/death metal vocals, power metal solos, and epic melodies to create a unique vision of what melodic metal can be. They had taken a chance, not just wanting to be another of the countless U.S. Nu-Metal or hardcore acts, and eventually destiny would call....
.......... One of the band's friends grew up with a Bay Area Thrash Metal legend, and promised to arrange a meeting between them and this legend, Steve Zetro Souza (Legacy, Exodus). Little did they know that this meeting would end up changing the band forever.
.......... Zetro really liked what he heard. He knew they were very musically mature, had great arrangements, and had the energy that he once had himself at their age. He decided to take the band under his wing and do whatever he could with his knowledge, contacts, and motivation to help them along.
.......... Zetro first got them a couple of bigger shows. Ariel and Kelsey quit, Ariel was replaced with Nikita Schepin on lead guitar, but the bass spot remained open. Soon after, Zetro got Vio-Lence soundman Mike Anderson to record them a self titled demo.
.......... Oskorei still needed a bass player, and Zetro suggested his son, Cody, who tried out and earned his spot with his bass talent. Now they had Cody keeping their thrash roots in line
.......... They have since lost Nikita on guitars due to changing motivations and his leaving for college, and are currently looking for a permanent rhythm/lead guitarist.
.......... Their influences include the Bay Area Thrash (Exodus, Testament, Slayer, Megadeth), Black Metal (Satyricon, Ulver, Immortal, Gorgoroth, Bathory, Sargeist, Darkthrone), Death Metal (Deicide, Morbid Angel, Origin, Behemoth, Hate Eternal), Melodic Death Metal (In Flames, At The Gates, Kalmah, Children of Bodom), as well as bands like Dio, Summoning, Dragonforce, Blind Guardian, and of course, Iron Maiden. They've now played with bands such as Vital Remains, Dragonlord, Testament, and Deicide, had an article on Blabbermouth, and been interviewed in Polish metal magazine Pure Metal as well as being featured in several local magazines and fanzines. They are currently unsigned and playing shows in the Bay Area.
