My hope here is to provide a place where our military and ex-military can meet interesting people and maybe have access to sites they wouldn't normally come across.
I joined the Army out of High School. I wanted to go do my part to end the war. ( actually I was full of male hormones and just wanted to kick some ass ) I enlisted in Tampa, Florida in November 1968. A friend of mine talked me into quiting school ( I was only going to one class a day and only needed one credit to graduate ) So, I quit school and joined the Army with my friend Albert on the buddy plan ( was supposed to go through training together ). Well he failed the physical and I had taken the oath before they told me. So, he went home and I went to Columbus,Georgia. Fort Benning, Sand Hill. After all my training I got orders to go to Vietnam. I went to Chu Chi Vietnam in the III Corp. The company was a Long Range Recon company when I first arrived. After six months it was changed to the 75th Rangers Company F. We went to the field in teams consisting of six men, sometimes as few as three men. I estimate there were about sixty guys in three different hutches. After I was there a few months there were only three of us left. A causualty rate of seventy-five percent turned into ninety-seven percent. I served my tweleve months in country and was sent to Fort Knox, KY. I spent a year and half as an instructor teaching military tactics to Vietnamese, Laosion and Cambodian Officers. I left the army A Buck Sgt. E-5 with a Bronze Star, two Army Comendation Medals, Five Vietnam Cross Of Galantry's, 6 Presidental Citations, Vietnam Campain Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Good Conduct, National Defense, Combat Infantryman's Badge, several other awards and a good dose of Agent Orange.
I will write stories about missions I took part in and post them in my blog.
