About Me

All this typing could take forever. So i'll be brief for now. Recently started work at an Architects in Manchester after spending 20 glorious years in education and a year out. I guess it is time I started to get down to work and pay some tax. I also now have some time to waste pottering around on sites like this...

My Interests

Painting and drawing is probably my most interesting thing I get up to (although I don't do enough of it!). This being outside the usual gubbins like going out with mates, watchin footy, and trying to play it and a few other recreation sports. But I am a bit lazy so mostly... I have a big tank of tropical fish that I like to gaze at from my bed listneing to music. Out in the garden I have some monster Koi carp.

I'd like to meet:

For what purpose? Liv Tyler?

Music:

My current favourites are Arcade Fire and Laura Veirs. But there is too much music to list here. Radiohead must be my all time favourites, but I like a bit of everything...from Borodin to Basement Jaxx.

Movies:

I have probably watched 'Withnail and I' more than anything else, closely followed by The Big Lebowski. Such funny films are great to watch over and over, but although I am by no means a film buff, I am in into arty/cinematography as a visually trained type, my most favourite being the urban/human condition study Koyaanisqatsi. It is truly mesmerising - go track it down. Also Bladerunner, Batman, Get Carter and The Wickerman deserve a mention. My most recent find has been 'Threads', a pretty disturbing depicition of what could have happened if the cold war turned hot. Set in Sheffield, featuring one of my old locals, it was all the more chilling. Made by the BBC and subsequently banned (probably because it would justifiably cause widespread panic) it bought home to me the era I was born into. Again check it out at all costs. When I was in Sheffield I used to enjoy a good Indie night out called 'Threads' at DQs, only now do I appreciate the addition of the name to clubbing nomenclature.

Television:

I can't miss an episode of Monk at the moment. He is a legend... I was so pleased to discover that he is on Beeb2 on Sat afternoons now. It is almost likely they knew I was no longer a student able to watch his old weekday post neighbours, post doctors, afternoon slot.

Books:

Still currently reading the biography of Nick Drake and a collection of Short Stories by Kafka, mostly because I have just discovered an interesting '80s social history book entitled "North and South" (David Smith) documenting the history of our countries growing divide, but it could have been written yesterday.

Heroes:

I have never had a personal hero? I suppose Churchill was 'the Dogs...' though for everyone in the UK. This category still puzzles me.
