About Me

I live in London with my wife, Arcadia Noir... she's responsible for my pictures (and many other things). I'm into goth/industrial music but am not depressed or angry (unless I hear Bush or Blair talking about Palestine, Iraq or Afghanistan). I also speak French and Spanish. I believe it's important to constantly strive to improve ourselves and the lives of those around us.
Here are some lines which I found inspirational, insightful or amusing. And I wish I'd thought of them first.
G O D
"God is a comedian, playing to an audience too afraid to laugh." VOLTAIRE
"If God did not exist, it would be necessary to invent Him." VOLTAIRE
"He was an embittered atheist - the sort of atheist who does not so much disbelieve in God as personally dislike Him." GEORGE ORWELL
"'God is Love', we are taught as children to believe. But when we first begin to get some inkling of how He loves us, we are repelled; it seems so cold, indeed, not love at all as we understand the word." W. H. AUDEN
"I sometimes think that God in creating man somewhat overestimated his ability." ALBERT CAMUS
"I cannot believe in a God who wants to be praised all the time." NIETZSCHE
"Is man one of God's mistakes? Or is God one of man's mistakes?" NIETZSCHE
G O V E R N M E N T
"Who controls the past controls the future: who controls the present controls the past." GEORGE ORWELL
"During times of universal deceit, telling the truth becomes a revolutionary act." GEORGE ORWELL
"In our age there is no such thing as 'keeping out of politics.' All issues are political issues, and politics itself is a mass of lies, evasions, folly, hatred and schizophrenia." GEORGE ORWELL
"The very concept of objective truth is fading out of the world. Lies will pass into history." GEORGE ORWELL
"It is dangerous to be right in matters on which the established authorities are wrong." VOLTAIRE
"All things are subject to interpretation. Whichever interpretation prevails at a given time is a function of power and not truth." NIETZSCHE
W A R
"War is peace. Freedom is slavery. Ignorance is strength." GEORGE ORWELL
"War against a foreign country only happens when the moneyed classes think they are going to profit from it." GEORGE ORWELL
"All the war-propaganda, all the screaming and lies and hatred, comes invariably from people who are not fighting." GEORGE ORWELL
"Every war when it comes, or before it comes, is represented not as a war but as an act of self-defense against a homicidal maniac." GEORGE ORWELL
"All murderers are punished unless they kill in large numbers and to the sound of trumpets." VOLTAIRE
"Resistance is feasible even for those who are not heroes by nature, and it is an obligation, I believe, for those who fear the consequences and detest the reality of the attempt to impose American hegemony." NOAM CHOMSKY
"I do not know with what weapons World War 3 will be fought, but World War 4 will be fought with sticks and stones." EINSTEIN
S O C I E T Y
"The individual has always had to struggle to keep from being overwhelmed by the masses. If you try you will be lonely often and sometimes frightened. But no price is too high to pay for the privilege of owning yourself." NIETZSCHE
"You have your way. I have my way. As for the right way, the correct way, the only way, it does not exist." NIETZSCHE
"The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable man persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man." GEORGE BERNARD SHAW
"If there were in the world today any large number of people who desired their own happiness more than they desired the unhappiness of others, we could have paradise in a few years." BERTRAND RUSSELL
"The amount of women in London who flirt with their own husbands is perfectly scandalous. It looks so bad. It is simply washing one's clean linen in public." OSCAR WILDE
S O C I A L I S M & C A P I T A L I S M
"Advocates of capitalism are very apt to appeal to the sacred principles of liberty, which are embodied in one maxim: The fortunate must not be restrained in the exercise of tyranny over the unfortunate." BERTRAND RUSSELL
"Between persons of equal income there is no social distinction except the distinction of merit. Money is nothing: character, conduct, and capacity are everything. There would be great people and ordinary people and little people, but the great would always be those who had done great things, and never the idiots whose mothers had spoiled them and whose fathers had left them a hundred thousand a year; and the little would be persons of small minds and mean characters, and not poor persons who had never had a chance. That is why idiots are always in favor of inequality of income (their only chance of eminence), and the really great in favor of equality." GEORGE BERNARD SHAW
"No advance in wealth, no softening of manners, no reform or revolution has ever brought human equality a millimeter nearer." GEORGE ORWELL
"All I know is I'm not a Marxist." KARL MARX
"Religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the heart of a heartless world, and the soul of soulless conditions. It is the opium of the people." KARL MARX
E X I S T E N C E
"All that we see or seem, is but a dream within a dream." EDGAR ALLEN POE
"Let us beware of saying that death is the opposite of life. The living being is only a species of the dead, and a very rare species." NIETZSCHE
"Existence really is an imperfect tense that never becomes a present." NIETZSCHE
"Life at its noblest leaves mere happiness far behind; and indeed cannot endure it. Happiness is not the object of life: life has no object: it is an end in itself; and courage consists in the readiness to sacrifice happiness for an intenser quality of life." GEORGE BERNARD SHAW
"Life can only be understood backwards, but must be lived forwards." KIERKEGAARD

My Interests

Alternative art and literature, watching films in bed, chocolate (especially Leonidas), designing clothes, gigs, visiting other countries and cultures

I'd like to meet:

People who are positive, creative and have the convictions to think and act differently from the masses. If you support the unholy alliance of Bush and Blair, the armchair assassins of our time, please don't add me. I can't be friends with anyone who shares my taste in music but not my ideas of right and wrong.

QUOTES FROM ISRAELI PRIME MINISTERS ON PALESTINE:

"Our race is the Master Race. We are divine gods on this planet. We are as different from the inferior races as they are from insects. In fact, compared to our race, other races are beasts and animals, cattle at best. Other races are considered as human excrement. Our destiny is to rule over the inferior races. Our earthly kingdom will be ruled by our leader with a rod of iron. The masses will lick our feet and serve us as our slaves." (Menachem Begin)

"We must expel Arabs and take their places." (David Ben Gurion, 1937, Ben Gurion and the Palestine Arabs, Oxford University Press, 1985)

"Let us not ignore the truth among ourselves. Politically we are the aggressors and they defend themselves. The country is theirs, because they inhabit it, whereas we want to come here and settle down, and in their view we want to take away from them their country." (David Ben Gurion, quoted on pp 91-2 of Chomsky's Fateful Triangle)

"Israel exists as the fulfillment of a promise made by God Himself. It would be ridiculous to ask it to account for its legitimacy." (Golda Meir, Le Monde, 15 October 1971)

"There is no such thing as a Palestinian people... It is not as if we came and threw them out and took their country. They didn't exist." (Golda Meir, statement to The Sunday Times, 15 June, 1969)

"The Palestinians are beasts walking on two legs." (Menachem Begin, speech to the Knesset, quoted in Amnon Kapeliouk, "Begin and the Beasts" New Statesman, June 25, 1982)

"The Palestinians would be crushed like grasshoppers ... heads smashed against the boulders and walls." (Yitzhak Shamir in a speech to Jewish settlers New York Times April 1, 1988)

"It is the duty of Israeli leaders to explain to public opinion, clearly and courageously, a certain number of facts that are forgotten with time. The first of these is that there is no Zionism, colonialization, or Jewish State without the eviction of the Arabs and the expropriation of their lands." (Ariel Sharon, addressing a meeting of militants from the extreme right-wing Tsomet Party, Agence France Presse, November 15, 1998)

"Israel may have the right to put others on trial, but certainly no one has the right to put the Jewish people and the State of Israel on trial." (Ariel Sharon, 25 March, 2001 quoted in BBC News ..)

REASONS TO BOYCOTT ISRAELI GOODS:

Israel destroys Palestinian homes daily
Refuses to stop building its illegal colonies and apartheid wall on stolen land
Continues to control Gaza while slicing up the West Bank
Denies Palestinian refugees their right to return to their own homeland
Operates a racist, apartheid system
Israel is starving the people of Gaza by withholding taxes owed to them and denying them foreign aid
Over the last 6 years Israelis have killed 4,000 Palestinians - half of them children

"UNTIL DEATH DO US PART"

Music:

Gary Numan got me through my teenage years so I guess he's the most influential artist in my life...

I also listen to Nine Inch Nails, Marilyn Manson, Tool, Mortiis, Rammstein, Sulpher, Ministry, Deathstars, Filter, Rob Zombie, Korn, Disturbed, David Bowie, Sisters of Mercy, Radiohead, Placebo, Tori Amos, Kate Bush, Roxy Music, Ultravox, Japan, Talk Talk, Bauhaus, Joy Division, Depeche Mode, Visage, Fad Gadget, Goldfrapp, The Cranes, Duran Duran, The Smiths, Muse, Travis, Manic Street Preachers and many others, depending on my mood...

Movies:

Too many to mention! I particularly like films by the following directors: Tim Burton, David Lynch, Martin Scorcese, Francis Ford Coppola, Roman Polanski, Krzyzstof Kieslowski, Alejandro Inarritu, Pedro Almodovar, Cronenberg, Tarantino... and films featuring actors such as Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, Johnny Depp, Christian Bale, Sean Penn, Chris Walken, Naomi Watts, Cillian Murphy... I enjoy watching foreign films, particularly, French, Spanish, South American and Japanese

Television:

Have I Got News For You, Blackadder, Jonathon Ross, Ali G, Monty Python, wildlife/nature programmes (yes, I know it sounds sad but they're fascinating!) I lose the will to live if I watch any more than a couple of minutes of "reality" or "talent" shows.

Books:

I admire the writing of George Orwell, Voltaire, Thomas Hardy, Charles Dickens, Edgar Allen Poe, Oscar Wilde, Dostoevsky, Iain Banks, Noam Chomsky, Ballard, Brett Easton Ellis and many others

Heroes:

First and foremost, George Galloway, an inspiration to anyone who believes in social justice. The man has more wit, charm and charisma than any politician has a right to. Galloway's brilliant oratory skills and courage to stand up for his principles make him the most painful thorn in the enormous ass of the right wing.

Robert Fisk, for his eloquent coverage of the scenes behind wars around the world over the last 23 years. If you are interested in learning about events leading up to 9/11, which many people still believe to be an unprovoked terrorist attack, then "The Great War for Civilisation" is compulsory reading.

I also admire the likes of John Pilger, Noam Chomsky, Seymour Hersh, Ilan Pappe and Jeff Halper who dare to speak out against their own governments in order to enlighten us on the reality behind the facade
