Doomed Are We

About Me

On March 1998, somewhere in Athens-Greece, two friends - St. Spirus (Bass, Vocals) and Alexander P. (Guitar) - decided to transubstantiate their love for Black Sabbath and music widely by creating a band. As time passing by, the band was supplemented with Thomas G. (Guitar) and an other Alex T. (Drums). Having been grown by hearing Black Sabbath and after been touched by Pentagram, Spirit Caravan and mostly St. Vitus, their style couldn't be other than slow, slow, slow and heavy. In any case it's better to be Doom than to be doomed. And Doom there was!!! And the name was "VIOLET VORTEX"!!! Enthusiasm, rehearsals, gigs that led to parties and the love of their partisans, prompted them to record their first demo "Rush hour for lust" on winter of '98. More rehearsals, gigs, presentations to fanzines and magazines and the second demo "Indulge in reverie" was published on December of '99. A more dynamic style it's obvious already. Follow attendances to the underground collection of Psychedelic 'zines -the song "Luv"- and Doom or be Doomed(Stoned Bunnies) -the song "Trouble". On Spring of 2001 their communication to Secret Port Rec. brings their fist "ever wanted" contract and their cd "Lure Elegant" comes true.

It was only a matter of time for the band to prove itself as the best doom band on Greece, as was reported in many live-reports of the most known music sites and magazines but even by those who had the privilege to see them live on stage. After all, every one realized that the stage was the place where the band breaths better. After years' passing a few member-changes became to the band, with St. Spirus to remain the spirit and body of the group. At first Stamos V. replaced Alex T. on the drums and after the retirement of Alexander P. (guitar) and Thomas G. (guitar), a new guitarist duo came to join the band. It was Gabriel G. and Yannis G. who took place adding a little bit of their personality. St. Spirus, Stamos V. and Yannis G. will continue as trio, trying to maintain the band's honor. And so things go on . . .They are the founders of Turbojugend-Athens!

Influences: Starting from Black Sabbath & Pentagram passing through Saint Vitus & Candlemass and ending to... let's not say ending that's not the right word but Cathedral & Count Raven should be nice...
Sounds Like: Well, think of Black Sabbath Mk. 1 shaken but not stirred with Saint Vitus, Pentagram and a lethal dose of Cathedral... Some nice mediterennean vibes (!!!) and you get a nice guess that you should better listen to our stuff than try to pigeonhole our style...
