A Little History
The year was 1995; the internet was just starting to be embraced by the DIY community. Armed with my 486 and a lot of questions I ventured out into the World Wide Web in search of other straightedge girls. I found site after site about straightedge, but all written for, by, and about boys. I was disillusioned and frustrated. I was just about to give up when I came across a one page website hosted by tripod. It was a page about a discussion list called xsisterhoodx®. I joined and within a day I was connected to three hundred girls and women of the straightedge persuasion. Daily I would read their stories filled with fear, empowerment, frustration, and strength.
By 1996 the moderator and creator of the list decided she did not want to do it anymore and passed it on to me. Since then I have worked on making xsisterhoodx.com a resource which supports the ladies of hardcore and straightedge. Though articles, forums, and open communication I am attempting to build a positive community and support system.
