About the Band
The Birthday Massacre are from Toronto, Canada. Combining their interests in various musical and artistic styles, the band has successfully accumulated an impressive international fan base, press accolades, and defied categorization with their unique sound and visuals.
The band was formed in 2000 and independently produced and recorded their first two albums, Nothing and Nowhere and Violet. Through both of these high-demand releases, as well as their highly acclaimed and beautifully atmospheric website , the band has obtained a large and loyal fan base throughout the world. The band currently finds a home on the European label Repo Records, and Metropolis in North America. The bands lineup consists of vocalist Chibi, guitarists Rainbow and Mike Falcore, bassist O.E., keyboardist Owen and drummer Rhim.
The last year has seen the band touring internationally, traveling across Canada, the United States, Mexico, and many European countries. They have become renowned for their high-energy live performances, drawing large, mixed crowds through their appeal to fans of a surprisingly wide range of genres. Equally comfortable playing intimate venues as they are on a festival stage, the bands highly-praised performances will continue into the next year as they continue touring and creating new material for future release. La banda comenzó, originalmente, bajo el nombre de Imagica en el 2000. Lanzaron dos demos con el nombre de Imagica (2000 y 2001). Luego, por problemas con otra banda, cambiaron su nombre a The Birthday Massacre y se mudaron a Toronto, Ontario en 2001, dónde comenzaron con las grabaciones de Nothing and Nowhere.
Es precisamente en el terreno musical dónde más rompen moldes aunando de una manera fantástica lo viejo y lo nuevo en sus composiciones. Su música posee momentos vocales claramente influenciados por el techno-pop de los '80, Posee influencias del new wave, guitarras y Ambientes influenciados por el gothic metal con algo de industrial (algo realmente innovador).
En Julio del 2002, TBM independientemente lanzó su CD de Edición Limitada llamado "Nothing and Nowhere". En el 2003, Adm se unió a la banda en los teclados en vivo y Rhim en la percusión. En el 20 de Julio del 2004, The Birthday Massacre lanzó un EP de nueve canciones llamado "Violet, y al final del año, relanzaron "Nothing and Nowhere" con una nueva carátula. Luego Adm dejó la banda para seguir con sus proyectos. En otoño del 2004, la banda firmo con Repo Records (Alemania), y lanzó una versión remasterizada y más larga de "Violet" en Europa, incluyendo nueva arte dentro del álbum.
En el 2005, la banda firmó con Metrópolis Records y relanzó "Violet" en los Estados Unidos, Canadá, el Reino Unido y la mayor parte de Sudamérica. O-en se unió a la banda en los teclados y en Agosto, la banda empezó una serie de tours internacionales, viajando a paÃses como Suiza, Alemania, Holanda, Hungaria, República Checa y Bélgica. También en Agosto, fue lanzado un DVD con el video de la canción "Blue".
