Crossing 32nd Street

Phoenix's Premiere Experimental Music Ensemble

About Me

Crossing 32nd Street-- Phoenix's premiere contemporary and experimental music ensemble-- is dedicated to the performance of representative chamber music of the 20th and 21st centuries. Now in its fifth year in residence at Paradise Valley Community College, the ensemble boasts a repertoire that includes music by John Luther Adams, Louis Andriessen, Bela Bartok, John Cage, Elliott Carter, Lukas Foss, Peter Garland, Lou Harrison, Charles Ives, Olivier Messiaen, Arvo Part, Steve Reich, Terry Riley, Edgard Varese, William Walton, Iannis Xenakis, and John Zorn. Recently named Best New Classical Music Ensemble by the Arizona Republic, X32ST is also committed to increasing the awareness and understanding of contemporary chamber music by presenting works of the highest quality and integrity to diverse audiences.

In addition to performing music by some of the 20th century's most noted composers, X32ST strives to promote the music of young and emerging composers. The ensemble's core instrumentation-- comprised of new music specialists from Arizona State University, the University of New Mexico, and the University of California at San Diego-- consists of flute, clarinet, saxophone, voice, violin, cello, piano, percussion, and electronics. The group regularly gives performances at alternative spaces in Downtown Phoenix as well as the campuses of Paradise Valley Community College, Glendale Community College, and Arizona State University.
