Nottingham's Only Anime Convention

About Me

About FuyuCon
Why are you running a convention?
When East Midlands Anime Group formed we jokingly said as soon as we reach 100 members on our forums we'd run a convention; thinking that this will take several years to achieve, as we didn't think the uptake of a university independent anime club would be as popular as it has proven to be.
As it happened and much to the EMAG committee's surprise we managed to reach that number of forum members after one year of holding anime showing meets. Since that happened we have albeit slowly been working on the ground work to make this event happen.
Why call it FuyuCon?
The convention is named FuyuCon as the convention will be running in the cross over of seasons between autumn and winter and the Japanese word for winter is fuyu.
Where are you holding FuyuCon?
We're looking at holding FuyuCon in Nottingham as Derby where EMAG is based doesn't have the facilities needed to carry out an anime convention.
Why is there over a year between FuyuCon announced and it actually running?
Basically we are trying to make sure everything is well planned and runs smoothly over the whole weekend for the people who attend.
Why are you running FuyuCon over that weekend?
Because the guideline October half term for the schools in England start over that weekend. This is also the best date where concerning other UK conventions as it runs as far as possible date wise from them.

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

This is more like who you will get to meet at the convention

Helen McCarthy.

Helen's first book, Anime! A beginners Guide to Japanese Animation, appeared in 1993. Since then, she has written The Anime Movie Guide, Hayao Miyazaki: Master of Japanese Animation, and 500 Manga Heroes & Villains. She has also co-authored two books with Jonathan Clements - The Erotic Anime Movie Guide and The Anime Encyclopedia. Her most recent work, an extended and updated edition of The Anime Encyclopedia, will be published in November 2006.

Helen co-founded and edited Britain's first professional anime magazine, Anime UK, and went on to edit its successor, Anime FX, and Manga Mania.

She has also written reviews and features for many publications and has spoken on radio and TV, as well as at European and American conventions.

This is her first British convention appearance for several years.

Trivia fans may not know that Helen has also co-produced anime dubs, and had a brief voice acting career in the hard-to-find UK releases of Cat Girl Nuku-Nuku and KO Century Beast Warriors.
