When it comes to Hip Hop culture, Brooklyn, New York City has been home to many urban trends that have impacted the world with Bed Stuy being its most prominent contributor. But if you were to ask me; a Clinton Hill-based rapper Kenneth Ray, known simply to the Hip Hop world as K-Jay, his downtown Brooklyn neighborhood located slightly above world-renowned Bed Stuy USA is about to be stamped into Hip Hops consciousness with mybrand of melodic, accessible flows and sincere lyricism.
I have caused quite a stir not only in my hometown but across the east coast. And with the debut single "Get It In" and my "Poppin Verse" released independently, the entire Hip Hop community will find out what Clinton Hills heads and my loyal and growing fan base have known for a while.
Born of Liberian parentage, I credit my musical career and his relentless hustle to make it as a recording artist to my childhood years in the predominantly African American enclave of Fort Greene which is known for its hustling mentality. ..Coming up my whole life I always had the Bed-Stuy influence around me. But when it comes to making money, I have always did it the legal way. Like by selling cds and ghost writing, and getting jobs.
Though much has been said about the critical state of New York Hip Hop, K-Jay represents an artist who doesn't mind going outside of his comfort zones to not only seek to get Hip Hop back in love with the city that gave birth to it all, but most of all, to get the rap world back in love with itself by opening up its ears, minds and hearts for MC..s with something more to say; and who won't be stopped by any means in getting his message across to the masses. ..As an artist I want people to expect the unexpected. Don't think for one minute that I am going to come this way all the time. You'll hear one record and go wild .. ..Wow. He did that?..
