EARBUZZ CD REVIEW: There is a phenomena in music that very few bands fit in and very few become popular within. These artists introduce something new that hasn't been heard before - and, in most cases, the music is there, but the production quality lacks. Then there are other bands - incredibly popular bands - that are able to take qualities of influence and wrap them up in a complete package - perfectly produced, performed, and delivered. RICK DEJESUS falls into the second category here with their sonic hard driving pop/rock self titled CD. We find nine tunes that are thread with the same needle of thrash candy love with strong intelligent lyrics of longing. Guitars are gorgeous - whether acoustic stereo intros in tunes like track 4's, " CRUSH ' or anthem moving power chord stylings in "Brother". Vocals are identically right - pitch perfect and timbre tight the lead lines are convincing and emotive. Underneath, bass and drums are legendary rock trained, and characteristically mature by George Robbins. The band takes pages from progressive rock bands in its instrumentation but without any real instrumental indulgence as the music has one purpose, to support the song. And the songs do penetrate. One of our favorites is the aforementioned, "Brother". The tune is a fitting backdrop for stadium filled lighters, waving raised arms, and the star-struck eyes of possible new friends. The CD, however, opens with an instrumental stab to the ears as we are prepared for the energy to come. Track 2, "Move On", has a chorus that combines inventive harmonies with kinetic octaved guitar lines and a wall of drums and bass. The following track, "All Falls Down", we hear the subtlety and tortured intimacy the plays in the more gentle rock passages - nice. Another gem on the CD is "Tell Me". The song, musically, is more ambitious with chord changes that remind us of Queen and vocal and song arrangement that touches Pearl Jam. Great CD and one of the fastest selling debuts in earBuzz.com's history.
