NEW TICKET TO SEE WORLD'S BEST
A NEW five-day Australian Open Ground Pass is being hailed by organisers as one of the best value-for-money tickets in world sport and entertainment.
The pass gives tennis fans five days at the Australian Open for just $99, making it the cheapest Ground Pass in eight years.
You can watch the best tennis in the world for less than $20 a day, as well as enjoying all of the entertainment, colour and life within the precinct,? Tennis Australia CEO Steve Wood said.
The biggest ticket price increases at the 2008 Australian Open are for the much-sought after tickets to the men?s and women?s singles finals ?up from $174 to $249.90. The semi finals are $149.90 (up from $104).
"This is purely a commercial decision, based upon greater costs as well as the need for more revenue, and made bearable by sheer demand. The finals tickets sell out very quickly and we think they are still excellent value for money" Mr Wood explained.
He noted the Australian Open was far and away the biggest income earner for Tennis Australia, a non-for-profit organisation which invests all proceeds into promoting and developing the sport.
"Our aim is to have more people playing our sport more often and we want to nurture them through the ranks,"Mr Wood said.
"We want to find and develop the next generation of champions."
Some other ticket offers for the 2008 Australian Open include:Daily Ground Passes remaining at $29 A new Vodafone Arena ticket (starting at $37) guaranteeing the holder a seat A Family Ground Pass for $75 An after-5pm Ground Pass for $20
Queue complaints and concerns about crowd control prompted a rethink on Vodafone Arena arrangements, which previously had limited reserve seating with the remainder accessible to Ground Pass holders.
"The massive queues and incredibly long waits in the sheer hope of getting a seat have been a source of frustration for many," Mr Wood said. "Now you can get a ticket to Vodafone Arena which guarantees a seat all day."
Series packages go on sale for two days only on October 4 and all tickets are on sale from October 6.
Australian Open 2008, presented by Kia Motors in association with Garnier and GE Money, will take place at Melbourne Park, Melbourne, from 14-27 January 2008.
