About Me

Procyon started in 1984, in Almada as a four-piece composed by: Mané Ribeiro (drums); Vasco Marques (Guitars); Paul McVictor (Bass) and Tó-zé (Vocals). With this line-up, the band, named after a star, hits the stage and starts spreading their sound and name in some gig's around. Soon the vocalist leaves the band and to replace him comes Miguel Stein(R.I.P.). The number of shows increases drastically and the band's name achieves notable recognition among the portuguese metal community, promoted by 1987's first demo-tape "Obsessed By Time", recorded at Espírito Santo Studios in their hometown. After a few years the band decides to let the singer leave again, and to overcome another casualty, Procyon decide to have two new entrys on their line-up: Nuno Torres (vocals) and Jerónimo (guitars) join in. Composing new material, and with Duarte Dionísio for Contacto Management, they decide to record another demo, this time at Studio 35, also in Almada, during June and July 1990. During this process the second guitarrist leaves his job to be replaced by Carlos Mendes wich only stays enough time to do a few promotion actions such as the recording of the video-clip "Asking More". For his place comes, as a guest, João Matos, just for some live shows, promoting "Last Seeds Of Mind", released in December '90 and followed in '91 by the tour "Last Seeds On The Road", with a number of shows through the country and culminating with the support act for Ratos De Porão on their first visit to Portugal. By this time Pedro Silva was already the new second guitar player. After this highlight moment, another severe breakdown strikes Procyon's stability and evolution when two of the founding members,Vasco and Paulo, leave the band.New auditions begin and after a few, Daniel (Bass) and Jorge "Facas" (guitars) are recruited. A new era begins and new material begins to urge. Among several songs, three are chosen to compose the content of Procyon's new release, the MCD "Read My Lips" in '94, as well supported by another tour through the country and three shows in Madeira island. After this, during the period of composition, musical divergences start to divide the band and in late '95, just like an extinguishing star, Procyon ends it's life.Ten years later, former vocalist Miguel Stein dies in hospital after a brutal car accident. This is a tribute to him(R.I.P.).
