“It isn’t everyday that people get to be a part of something that you love to do, except me!†Working for one of the legends of fashion, Ms. Audrey Smaltz has given her the tools needed to succeed in the fashion industry. Since Aminah’s arrival at The Ground Crew in 2003, she has increased the number of shows by 10 to 15% per season. She has expanded the company’s pre and post productions to 32 jobs during both February and September. Furthermore, The Ground Crew has been featured in the Wall Street Journal (September 2005), and in Black Enterprise (September 2006). New accounts include Macy’s, Kevin Krier & Associates, KCD, Diesel, Heatherette, Anna Sui, J-Lo’s Sweetface, and Gwen Stefani’s L.A.M.B. to name a few. Also responsible for expanding the territory of the Ground Crew from NYC to LA, LV, Miami, Orlando, Atlanta, and Chicago, and she has been able to take her work overseas and be apart of fashion week in Jamaica, Barbados, and St. Kitts.
This “Backstage Queen†has been the backstage manager for runway shows such as Louis Vuitton, Giorgio Armani, Christian Dior, Bottega Veneta, Oscar de la Renta, Donna Karan, Diesel, Kai Milla, Michael Kors, Lacoste, Esteban Cortazar, Tyler Media, Ann Taylor and now Victoria Secret. “As a backstage manager I am responsible for getting everyone there and ready to work. I also make sure that the models, dressers, hair and make-up, photographers, steamers and pressers are doing their jobs so the show flows, and that every model makes it out on time, and in the right outfit. I manage a team of the best fashion professionals worldwide.â€
With her credits as the casting director and event coordinator of BET’s “Rip The Runway,†and as producer of 7th and Sixth designer Sirichai, and UPS’ new designer Terexov of Russia, Aminah feels confident in her position. Other televised productions include The Martha Stewart Apprentice Show Finale of 2005, Ford’s Super Model Search of the World 2006, and Hot 97’s Full Frontal Fashion 2004, 2005, and 2006.
The “Ghost of Fashion†began her career as a fashion stylist for Oshare’ Stylez, a New York image consulting company. She expanded her career working the wardrobes for Platinum recording artists such as Ludacris, Chingy, Sean Paul, and 112. Aminah’s work has been featured in Cosmopolitan, Elle, Vibe, Source, Essence, XXL, and More Magazine.
She was the PR person under Valerie Chisholm for “A Stitch in Time†traveling exhibition tour, a chronology of African-American inventions, patents and designs from the 1800’s to present from DC, TX, NC to NY.
