While many of the BIG reggae jocks still have not caught onto this artist, ISIAH MENTOR has, well-deservedly I might add, taken the #1 spot in New Mexico !!! “Fight Fight Fight” is in regular rotation not only on NM’s reggae radio, but also featured by various local sound-systems. Impossible to get away from the tune out here, so congrats out to Mr. Mentor ! The selections on the HEAVENLY riddim that were so popular, still kick it but seem more or less on their way out now (Gentleman, Capleton, Alaine). Time for a new roots-bomb Mr. Corleone !!! Speaking of which, Special Delivery Records outta France have been putting out killer roots music for a few years now, but their current JUDGEMENT riddim tops everything they have done so far. Best roots riddim of the year so far PERIOD; best Capleton tune of the year etc. etc. Way to go JP & Pierre !!! Big up Bost & Bim !!!! Look for Isiah Mentor on their new riddim ROAD in 2007 !!!! The Taxi labels’ KEEP THAT LIGHT riddim is still popular in the Southwest, as demonstrated by the entries from Abijah & Lorna Bennett, while newcomer Junior X’s “Plead My Cause” also remains, hanging tuff. Germaican’s main artist Ill Inspecta from Leipzig, Germany, finally charts here in NM as well, courtesy of the most excellent MONEYBAG riddim, while the late-great Marko Bran still charts on the TEXAS RANGER. On the hardcore front, the rebuilt TWICE MY AGE riddim continues to see some action by way of tunes from Mr.Easy & Cham. The INSPECTOR riddim climbs aboard, due to Busy Signal’s wonderfully adolescent “High School”, as does Natural Bridge’s GULLY SLIME with Tony Matterhorn & Mr.Peppa respectively. Tony Matterhorn’s other hit “Dutty Wine” climbs up to the #7 spot, as gals are finally learning and demonstrating this hardcore dance out here. Last but not least the REDBULL & GUINNESS riddim clocks in at #’s 18 & 20, while Delly Ranx has a new riddim outta road entitled the GHETTO WHISKEY. I expect yuh to hear more bout that in the months to come. Until such time; Don Martin
