Jimmy D. Taylor is pure country from his boots to his John Deere cap. This comes from a Tennessee homegrown family atmosphere that runs deep in his blood. But his country persona is only part of the equation. When you hear him wail on his harmonica, you’ll see he is a true bluesman at heart. Jimmy’s harp tone speaks many languages. From the rich delta , country blues and bluegrass influences to the more modern day Blues Traveler. Growing up in Brownsville, TN. he studied the music of his hometown Blues heroes Sleepy John Estes, Hammie Nixon and Yank Rachell. After moving to Jackson Tn. a few years back he met Carl Perkins (Mr. Blue Suede Shoes) whom he befriended, gigged and recorded with before Carl’s untimely death. In 1995, after only playing harp for about 2 years, Jimmy D. Taylor took his harmonica and his duo guitar player Steve Patterson off to Beale Street, Memphis,TN. This reaped him much success. Overall Winner of the1996 Beale Street Blues Society blues competition”, “3rd place in the International Blues Competition”. From 1996 - 2000 Jimmy played several major blues festivals, clubs and juke joints across the USA. He recorded two CD’s and found himself immersed in his passion. During those years, Jimmy shared the stage or served as opening act to the likes of Carl Perkins, Delbert McClinton, Doug Supernaw, Luther Allison, Honey Boy Edwards, Billy Boy Arnold, R.L. Burnside, Big Jack Johnson, Ike Turner, Yank Rachell, John Sebastian, Confederate Railroad, and Lane Wilkins. In 2005 Jimmy was focused more to the east of Memphis down Interstate 40....yep, Nashville, TN… he was seen hanging with the Muzik Mafia (www.muzikmafia.com). Jamming with the likes of Shannon Lawson’s driving Bluegrass to the country and soul of James Otto and John Nicholson to the Country Rap vibes of Nashville’s “Chance". Every now and then he attended the Muzik Mafia's gatherings behind the scenes of Big & Rich, Cowboy Troy, Kid Rock, and a host of tasteful musicians deemed “Mafia Pit Bosses” . Beginning the year of 2006 Jimmy felt a calling to get back to the roots of his faith in Jesus Christ. He has spent more time this year traveling, recording and responding to his saviour's call in sharing the good news. He is staying busy playing and recording in the Contemporary and Traditional Gospel arena as well as secular country music. Look for him on the new Blake Shelton album coming in 07 as well as several Gospel releases.
