About Me

Alex D. Cortez, Music Video Director and Photographer was born and raised in Santa Ana, California, the central hub of Orange County [The OC]. A two-time high school drop out, that majored in film production at Chapman University, in Orange, California, and French Film aesthetics at Le College International De Cannes, in Cannes, France.

One of his first breaks was working under the tutelage of Gregory Nava director of Selena, El Norte, Mi Familia/My Family, on PBS’s American Family, and under the auspices of Mr. Nava on the film Border Town –starring Jennifer Lopez- scheduled for release in 2006.

Alex Cortez wrote a thrill binding television pilot known as “Heaven’s Devil” an hour-long television episodic show about an ex-CIA Secret Agent, John J. Caamano, a Mexican-American, covertly sent to Bolivia on an undercover assignment to assassinate Che Guevarra in 1969. His other writing credits include a feature length screenplay known as BEAUTIFUL, a heartrending love story of courage and devotion. Beautiful is a 'chick flick' or date movie. In addition, he’s written a cover story for Latin Style Magazine, featuring Eduardo Verastegui.

Cortez directed an incendiary and controversial music video for the Hip Hop Hoodios, a Latino/Jewish collective, for the single “Kike On The Mic,” from the album Agua Pa La Gente. His other music video directorial includes Chris Gonzalez AKA El Traficante De La Sierra’s Mexican regional single ‘Los Jugadores’, and a dabble on Ozomatli’s ‘Guerrillero.’

Alex D. Cortez is directing BETRAYAL AND VIOLATIONS: MEXICAN REPATRIATION OF THE 1930’S, the first feature length documentary on the unconstitutional or illegal deportation of Mexican-Americans during the Great Depression, as his documentary directorial debut.

Cortez’s Photography Portfolio features B-Real [Cypress Hill], an album cover for bi-lingual rapper Evil Eye MC/El Mal Ojo, and actor Danny Trejo [El Mariachi, From Dusk ‘Till Dawn, Blood In-Blood Out, Spy Kids].

Alex D. Cortez’s, Commercial Reel includes two 30-second television spots he directed for Girls Incorporated, formerly known as Girls Club of America. In addition he wrote a television commercial for Bank of America in Spanish. His other commercial writing credits include 3 television spots for Approve Any Loans.

Alex D. Cortez, music video director and photographer, is a well-rounded independent. He demonstrates originality, creativity, confidence and intellect. He fluently posses writing skills, lighting, camera placement and composition, along with editing and sharp direction. His body of commercial artistic work speaks for itself.
