Make my Funk the P-Funk!

About Me

I'm really neat. You want to know me. Trust me. I'll never steal your stuff or call you Purcival. (Note: if that's your given name - I'll call you Herman instead in order to fulfill this promise). I'm house-broken (for the most part), but I might vomit on your carpet if left unattended.
I'm a freelancer. What does that mean? It means that I'll do just about anything to make money, especially if I actually know how to do it (or can convince my prospective client that I know how to do it.) Most of my freelance activities tend to concentrate in the areas of media and production, i.e. camera work/field audio, live sound, audio production/editing, video production/editing, web multimedia production, telemprompters, etc. I've done work for lots o' folks you've probably heard of including NBC News, CBS News, Fox News, The Today Show, The Early Show (CBS), CNN, MSNBC, The Discovery Channel, The Travel Channel, E!, OLN (now called VS.), CNBC, CSPAN, ESPN, Bloomberg TV, Dr. Phil, Montel Williams, NBA TV, Acxiom Corporation, Cisco Systems, and many others. Going back to the "I'll do just about anything" mantra, I've also been known to do such things as drive a big delivery truck or help out with electrical and audio/visual installations (and much much more). So if you think I might know how to do something that you need done, (or at least think I can convince you of such,) give me a shout!
I also play music for fun and profit. I've been with the Little Rock band The GroanUps since 1992, and have also played with various other bands over the years.

My Interests

Audio Production, Video Production, News, Politics, Music, Movies, Computers and Technology, Art and Artistry, Guitar, Trombone, Homebrewing, Gardening, Grilling, and Well-Mixed Drinks.

I'd like to meet:

Cool people, especially people who can laugh at themselves and have fun. Also, anybody who's interested in hiring me! ;)

Music:

I like (or at least appreciate) most music that I hear, but my all-time favorite band is King's X.

Movies:

I like most everything, but especially documentaries and geeky sci-fi stuff, especially when it stays true to the original story (I hated the way Hollywood butchered Heinlein's Starship Troopers)... LOTR, Blade Runner, Star Wars, The Matrix, 2001 A Space Odyssey, you get the idea...
Other movies that I tend to watch again and again include: Spinal Tap, Office Space, Men in Black (I & II), The Shawshank Redemption (probably my all-time favorite movie), Fast Times at Ridgemont High... Ugh, there are too many. I could keep going all day so I'll stop now... OH WAIT! ONE MORE! Shaun of the Dead. There. Now I'll stop.

Television:

It probably seems odd for a guy that works in television, but I can't stand network tv for the most part. 2 and a Half Men is good. So is Heroes. On cable, I tend to watch HGTV, The Food Network, Comedy Central (esp. The Daily Show and Colbert), the Science Channel, the History Channel and HBO. Oh, and I mustn't forget Spongebob Squarepants.

Books:

Anything by Robert Heinlein, Dean Koontz, or Stephen King along with countless other tomes. I like to read.

Heroes:

My family, my friends, Bill Maher, Penn and Teller, Reginald Finley (aka Infidel Guy - infidelguy.com), Eric Idle, Stephen Colbert, Sam Harris, Carl Sagan, Dan Barker, Richard Dawkins, George Carlin, Ty Tabor, Doug Pinnick, Jerry Gaskill, Normal Bob Smith, (I'll add more as I think of 'em...)

My Blog

In Google We Trust?

My friend Andy (skypie.com) just sent me the following quote from the Wall Street Journal and asked an interesting question...  "At what point does it become a religion?" Here's the quote: Go...
