About Me

Welcome to the Leaders of the Old Skool Flag Party Myspace page, it is a work in progress, so I hope you bare with us and visit us regularly...
SO, WHAT'S FLAG PARTY ALL ABOUT?
Well… Flag Party was born in 1998 out of a love for our African Caribbean heritage and culture, not to mention sweet sweet Soca/Caiso music.
Flag Party is an old skool Soca fete (with a touch of the new!), where we play 100% Soca/Calypso music – with the exception being the very last tune played on the night (if you’ve been, you’ll know exactly what we’re talking about, “deck 1 or deck 2?”), and there are way too many great tunes to play on the night to be repeating anything!!? So, if you miss a tune, you know to reach earlier at the next one.
Flag Party was also created out of a disillusionment with the scene; how it was being played (deejaying skills or lack of, repeating tunes, etc.), what was being played (limited and poor selection, lack of variety within the genre, not digging deep enough, etc.), the attitude and vibes in the fetes (lack of vibes, tired formats lacking imagination, dryness of crowds, etc.).
Our disillusionment was shared by many true Soca lovers, who consequently abandoned the scene – although there are many who remain, fighting the good fight, like yourself of course!
Although we (Leaders…) are aficionados of many genres of quality music, deep in our hearts we are essentially Soca people – feteing as youngsters since 1991, listening and appreciating since birth. As some of you know, we've been underground for quite a while and the Soca world is a different place, it makes us wonder where we'd fit in to this scene, but then again we never really have fit in... and that's a good thing!!!
At the end of the day, Flag Party is not JUST about wukkin’ up, jumpin’ up and gettin’ on bad (although…), it is EQUALLY about sweet calypso, quality soca, caiso, pan tunes, chutney, rapso, parang, flags, singing, whistles, horns, crazy vibes, crazy people, progression, preservation, culture, pride, heritage, etc etc etc…oh yeah and…er…icepoles!!!
Well now you know… Flag Party is a celebration of our African Caribbean heritage and culture and we hope people still want what we've got to offer…
and if you do, or wanna find out...
why not join us!
