At age 21, she has gained so much admiration, fame, popularity and respect from her mates and younger ones. Amie was born of Gambian parents in Texas but has lived in Minnesota since the age of two. Unlike most who would connect to or take the Americanism, Amie has decided to stay connected to her roots and strongly states “I AM GAMBIAN!“. She emerged as the first ever MISS GAMBIA USA in May of 2006 in Maryland and continues to volunteer her time with the Miss Gambia USA LLC organization.What is amazing about Amie is her dexterity and versatility as she does quite a lot of things all of which she is very good at. She is currently working with the African Broadcasting Network-America as the Director of Music and Master Control Operator. During one of her recent trips to The Gambia, she was able to cover the African Union summit and also interviewed about 17 local talents. Amie is indeed a role model who is very humble, hard working and focused. Volunteering her time to write for and contribute to the GambianTalent website is also something she takes great pride in. She is presently attending University of Wisconsin-River Falls as a Senior majoring in Marketing Communications with a minor in Mass Communications.Young Amie Dibba is also a musician. She has already produced 10 promotional singles by herself on her computer. “My first love was music. My goal is to become a national recording artist. At this time, I am teaching myself how to produce and arrange music. I focus strongly on writing meaningful as well as catchy lyrics that draw the attention of the listeners and connect with them and their experiences. I know that with much practice and motivation my skills will become much better,†said Amie.She started singing at the age of 6. She sang in a choir for 7 years. “For 4 years I was a member of a singing group last known by me to be called “Harmonieâ€. In 2001, the group’s name changed to “VOICESâ€. Voices opened a show for National recording artists Jagged edge, did performances at a local jazz bar called Arnelia’s, and were listed as main the entertainment for a Father’s Day show. B-Rich of Baby Honey Records had expressed interest in Voices after watching them perform during the Jagged Edge concert. After many years, Amie decided to leave Harmonie to follow a new and more conducive path in order for her to better follow her dreams. In early 2004, Amie and Dynasty, a former band-mate and friend performed backup for an artist in Minneapolis, Minnesota (Double-Odd), he was the entertainer at a rap battle that was judged by Talib Kweli.This proud Gambian queen has a voice that shatters the hearts of mankind.
Amie has been doing music as a hobby and she believes in quality work. She is now set to go to studio. Amie sings hip hop and R&B but Is open to try new things.“Music is a huge part of my life and my dream and I am determined to succeed in it with God's guidance, the support and prayers of my people and dedication. My current project of music production, writing and arranging is one small step towards my objective, but it takes those steps and dedication to get you somewhere. I never expect things to be handed to me in life, work for what’s yours. I truly am working for my love of music and I will enhance my skills and develop myself as an artist in all ways possible. I pray to God that I may be granted the opportunity to better enhance and develop my skills, I promise when that happens, it will never be regretted.Amie has been exclusively producing, writing and arranging all of her songs. She is always open to trying out new sounds and working with different people. Amie is always on the look out for hot new instrumentals and beats. “It’s an investment,†said Amie.During her visit over the summer of '06 to the Gambia, she performed alongside Singateh A.K.A Freaky Joe, opened up a show for Senegalese female star Viviane N’dour as well as Senegalese male stars Pape Diouf and Fallou Dieng whom she also did a duo with that night, one of Sierra Leonian star Emmerson, and has been featured on GRTS Goudi Samdi hosted by Ansumana Drammeh, the Daily Observer news paper, www.onegambia.com, gambiantalents.com and visited with young Gambian youth and students as the first Miss Gambia USA. She was also invited by DJ Ous of West Coast Radio with one of the rising Gambian Reggae stars Heartbreaker. Her music is currently being played by DJ Edu on BBC radio and also by the likes of many dj's across the globe.In December of '06, Amie was back in The Gambia where she had various shows and was welcomed by The people of The Gambia.Currently Amie is working on an album as well as collaborating with other Gambian musicians. "WE, the musicians, have to put Gambian music on the map!"Amie’s love for the Gambia cannot be overemphasized as she lives her complete life “the Gambian wayâ€. In fact, she has used the Gambian national anthem as a song which she opens her performances with. “I love Gambia, I love the people, I love its beauty, it’s always home NO MATTER WHAT, GAMBIA STAND UP!†expressed Amie.
